twin battery into HL

Post by xrad »

I want to istall two 7.2 volt 3000(or greater) ma batteries into my HL jagdpanther. I am pretty good with electronics, but I don;t want to damage the board. Obviously, they don;t just wire into the battery 'in' on the RX18.

I saw a bulldog done with dual packs by another member.  Anyone with any tips?? What is the best way to upp the amps but keep the voltage and size of the packs similar?

The only way to do it is to have two batteries installed so that you can switch them over when one goes flat, or to double the running time. You can't have two batteries connected at the same time as this will blow the boards, you will be on 14.4v rather than 7.2v. You have a choice between serial or parallel connection, but make sure that you don't pick the wrong one. One doubles the voltage, the other doubles the run time but keeps the voltage the same. It is far easier to buy a 4600mah battery as it will run all day.

If you want more power then fit Graupner Speed 400 motors and a cooling fan. I have an HL Jagdpanther and even with metal tracks and sprockets it spins the tracks and will climb over anything using the standard RX18 and standard motors.

Boosting the amps will fry the board, don't even think about it.

You need to put them in parallel but like WW says you'd be better just getting a more powerful battery. Putting two batteries in just increases the weight.

OK thanks. I thought maybe someone ran a seperate motor speed control for each motor using the HL MFU to run the separate controls, and just tapped one of the batteries for MFU power.

Some of the aftermarket ESC's can handle a good amount of power. I just am not sure how to run the aftermarket ESC's off the HL MFU

i did this in my bulldog using twin 1700s and never blew a board but the weight was a killer

the volts stay the same but the amp/hours doubles  ie 2x1700s = 3400

You need more MHA not more volts, look into a fan to cool your RX BOARD,rccommand has fans and you can learn how to install at their web site or here in tips and tricks.I have a fan cooled RX-18 from RCCOMMAND,BUT YOU CAN BUY JUST THE FAN.6-months ago I had only built ships, tanks are alot different so I came here and learned alot, that is the best thing about this forum, their are no dumb questions, the only mistake is not to ask.No one here is so smart they cannot learn something new,so we ask questions of each other and between all the members we all get better, share idea's,and make better tanks. If you need wiring diagrams their here, you need help it's here.As far as fans go I have another cooling my motors, the power saved by running cooler pays for itself.Blake a.k.a.Saxondog
