WSN T-34

Post by SimonCornes »

Help!!
I acquired one of these via evil bay last weekend and it arrived yesterday. I was aware that the speed control is non-proportional but it really is a bit of a nightmare hidden under good looking clothing!!
I have reduced the tank voltage to 7.2v and, in my eyes, the top speed is still very adequate so I am happy to ditch 9.6v. I have a brand new Taigen 2.4GHz system and I'm thinking of installing that instead. I imagine control of the propulsion motors will be fine but the turret is the issue. As you probably know, traverse, elevation and firing is all care of push buttons with the WSN system but I wonder if the electrics might work 'normally' if plugged into the Taigen system? At the end of the day they are all basically servos I think ? Has anyone done this sort of conversion? If so, can you offer any advice please? I haven't even got the upper hull detached yet so I don't know quite what to expect once inside!!!!

Thanks

Its all done with motors, not servos. The only issue you might have is hooking up the recoil motor and its stop switch. Hopefully somebody has a wiring diagram for the Taigen system handy...

Thank you for the reply Tiger6. I subsequently realised that I had asked this question a week ago but it had not jumped out at my when I logged onto the site this morning!

Still haven't released the upper hull from the lower yet but I wonder what I'll find and how much sense I will be able to make of it!!
You previously;y recommended getting hold of a Heng Long turret rotation unit. Is that the ring plus motor that fits to the upper hull or just the moron unit? If so, can you tell me which HL tank they are supposed to fit? T-34 maybe or something more generic? I ask because I know Forgebear has several units in stock so I wouldn't know which one to go for!

The HL unit is universal, it meshes with the existing turret ring gear. Dave doesn't appear to have the basic plastic unit in (unless I am going blind?), so here's a link https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Heng-Long-Ta ... Swg2FbWZAu

To be honest I'd have a listen to the existing unit before diving in - they might have fixed what ever the problem was by now?

Thanks Tiger6

I now have the top of the hull off and Ive had a go at tracing the wiring to the main board. As I thought, the motor wires and power input will be fine. I'm going use the Taigen combo so that includes the sound board and speaker so I can disregard that part of the WSN kit. That leaves the turret. 7 wires of which I have identified the turret traverse motor (green and white). Then a red and black which come from the soundboard so I imagine they are connected to the barrel recoil and makes a 'bang' when the gun is fired? That leaves 3 more - red. white and blue which must be the gun elevation. No IR system. I don't know how that compared to a standard HL or Taigen turret wiring set up? A Heng Long wiring diagram would be really useful!! I think I now need an 8 pin umbilical. Forgebear are out of stock but I can get one from eBay at £7.99 - twice the price of Forgebear but post free. Its pity you can't just buy one with an 8 pin plug on one end and then I could solder the turret wires to it. Ah - I have the old RX-13 umbilical - that may do!!

A quick google will find all manner of wiring diagrams for Taigen and Heng Long.
