Advice regarding IR

Post by General Jumbo01 »

A brief question on IR compatibility, which has l known he covered before but....

Are the current Heng Long and Taigen apples compatible? I'm hoping the diferences are all in the mfu. If that is the case, can anyone tell me what colour wires go to which pins when swapping. Taking this one step further, could l just use any generic IR receiver led and, if so, can someone please post a link?

Why? Those apples are so wrong looking!

Have you had a look at wibblywobbly's How to on diy battle systems? viewtopic.php?f=81&t=20698 This will give you a Tamiya compatible system.

I have used a Taigen apple connected to a Clark board and battled with Tamiya compatible tanks. The finer details of how it all works and compatibility betwen different makes is beyond me, but I think it lies with the board rather than the emitters and receivers.

There was an interesting thread on RCU last year about the compatibility of the latest Heng Long V6.0 board which of course is dual I/R/BB ,
To summarise, Very little work will produce a viable Heng Long Tank with the ability to fight under "Tamiya"Regulations while using the Heng Long V6.0 board,
I hope that helps.
EDIT: The thread was started by Fat Tanks on 09-29-19 (American Dates) and was titled
"Heng Long 6.0 ir Battle System review" ,
The Tank was a New Heng Long T72 ,
The three page thread is still available on RCU if anyone is interested.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

That was/is a fine review Mr Jarndice
The small apple seems to work as well but it definitely looks better !

Thanks chaps, l think you've confirmed my suspicions, triggered by MrWobbly's earlier thread. I think I'll use a HL apple on my next conversion but then try a bare but hidden receiver led on the following KV1 who's turret top is too sparse to add a lump of plastic but does have several small ports. I still like the idea of housing a led in the commanders torso.

Thanks again
