Criticism
As a relative newcomer here have put a few comments in the Things To Fix section. Issues that i think are wrong in some tanks and can be fixed especially my latest build the Tiger 1. Beginning to think the old guard don't like constructive criticism.

Re: Criticism
I reckon yours and the others fix -it tips on your tanks a very handy for one, and certainly a thing that anyone unfamiliar with the inherent flaws in their respective new tank can also use to help chose one if they haven’t already.
Now,what’s this old guard thing ?

Re: Criticism
The Hl fixes started 2013 and i wondered why they were never picked up . It would be good if when us newbies started a build one of the old guard would butt in and give a few pointers
. Made enough mistakes, now i have a look back at the ones where they chop out all the faults first.

Re: Criticism
I must admit, I took a look at your turret lowering fix, but I haven't a clue whether it's right or wrong. Therefore I didn't post one way or the other.
But here's my constructive criticism on that post of yours.
It needed two more pictures, one before to go with your after shot. And a see what I mean real picture showing your fix is the same or as close as the real one.
As for old guard not liking criticism, I don't think so, we all pick fault with Heng Long tanks, we all know they are the most toy like, because that's the market they're aimed at, but just like some particular bad films, Heng Long have quite a cult following amongst us enthusiasts.
I think the only make of tank that has a devoted and protective "old guard" is Tamiya.

Re: Criticism
Picked it up on modelling forum , they do tank walkarounds for the rivet counters ( i would be taking grief for the tool positions as they are not perfect) to nit pick about.. Think tiger 1 info have the turret at 10 mm above hull , 0.6mm in rctankwarfare world.

Re: Criticism
I'm afraid rivet counting is lost on me, after seeing my eldest brother going over the top with a helicopter many years ago, I decided it wasn't for me, life's too short.
And once that helicopter was in the air, who the hell was going to notice if he had the correct amount of rivets.
Oh, and the other thing that got me, all that work, and one slight flying mistake. Start again, one, two, three, four. . . . 357, 358, 359. . . . No, not for me.

Re: Criticism
FYI,
I am a "rivet counter" in every since of the phrase! Look here: viewtopic.php?f=201&t=18880
However I was/am a novice in the world of RC Tanks and without the help of the "Old Guard" I would have chased my "arse" down several blind alleys. Thankfully by asking questions "before" I undertook the areas I was "least familiar" with I gained the knowledge of the "Old Guard". Now I will have not only a tank detailed like a "static model" with which I have 60 years experience but also a fully functional RC Model with which I had ZERO experience had not the "Old Guard" freely offered their experience, but then I ask before I began.
I have found that to be the best way to gain knowledge one wants but does not possess!
Better for the experience!!

Re: Criticism
In the end, Ronnie, it comes down to what the individual wants from the hobby. Some will go for highly detailed, others for robust. Personally, I'm happy to find a decent compromise, if I can.
Some will describe a build in detail, others will be onlookers.
Sharing, and pooling experience, is one of the main attractions of any forum, I guess. You can learn a lot, or very little- again it all comes down to what you want, and what your goals are. Some are happy to share, some are shy, and others simply don't have much to say.
That probably reflects life outside the Forum too, and the wider world.
Not all posts garner much interest (and I should know
), it just comes down to what's on offer- knowledge, and experience-wise and whether others can benefit from it. If a post doesn't attract a lot of responses, that doesn't mean it doesn't have value (hints/tips/solutions..even laughs) for others. The silent majority here simply don't chip in, that's all, and sometimes even the 'old guard;- whoever they might be.
If you've got a whole bag full of tasty solutions, by all means share them.. if it gives you pleasure. There's a good chance they'll be appreciated, even if you don't get the level of response you think they merit.
I think it's also worth bearing in mind, that all of us have to deal with this bizarre global pandemic situation, with its momentous consequences- and that life is anything but normal. There's a lot of stress and depression out there. Death too...
RCTW is also not free of its impact, that much is apparent.

(or tankin'
)
