Pics of my WWII vehicles

Post by Winalot »

Hi
Apologies if this is the wrong forum, and apologies for the quality, photod from another pic.
I was asked to post some pics of my ( once owned) US Vehicles
The Jeep was 1943 Willy’s, absolutely genuine and came straight from US, so never saw action I guess.
Many jeeps sold are actually Hotchkiss, but you can tell. Fitted with a .30 Cal, and original radio.
The Truck was 1943 GMC 2.5 ton 6x6. Short wheel base, nohrmally used as Artillery tractor. Pictures taken on Utah beach, and the famous church at St Mere Eglise, Normany. Most trucks were left behind in France and converted for French Army, but this retained its ordinal instruments in English.
If anyone is interested I can bang on about them more upon request, lol.

Yes the last pic is me (some years ago mind) still got the " pinks and greens" as the jacket and pants were called, and the cap. All 100% Original. The guys were in our group which was called US Ww2 living history.Nerdy? Perhaps.

Hi Ad Lav
Yes the GMC was a gem, back then it was £2.5K Perfect cond and tax exempt and , would you believe it, mot exempt, but it’s 4.5 Straight 6 engine only did 8mpg! Came from France as I said, but the instruments were US, some of the axles and components were French. After the war the yanks left everything behind, the French dismantled them all, and cherry picked the best to reassemble vehicles, mixed of course with new components from Hotchkiss. As I said there is a slight difference , from US jeeps, and French. But you can tell if you know where to look.

Not nerdy at all. I’ve been an American Civil War re-enactor and a bit of French and Indian War era stuff. Back in my youth of course. I still have all my weapons and most clothing.

Hi Jimpster
Me too ACW that is, I have many uniforms, mainly Repro Union, but I have friend who owns Blockade Runner in Tennessee, she made me a complete Robert E Lee style costume for my wedding 2 years ago, but I didn’t have the b—ls to wear it!
The best thing about France is, there are very few , if any, restrictions on black powder guns.I have a Sharps cavalry rifle, a Springfield 61 rifle, and many Colts and Remingtons, all fully refilled repro’ I have fired them all on a friends farm. Fantastic fun. But dangerous in wrong hands. The sharps fires the original style conical bullet, which will fire for 3 miles +.

Good job getting a photo of the truck on the beach - they’re hotting up on this apart from D-Day anniversaries.

Plan to take my jeep there when it’s finished.
