I have just bought a Heng Long ZTZ 99 battle tank and will be looking to upgrade it in due course as I like tinkering, I live in Greater Manchester and have got into this hobby at a rather late age 65, the wife reckons i am going back to my childhood but hey ho!.

Hello and welcome along to the forum Malc
you are in good company here as let's just say that the majority on the site are in a more mature ( or is that immature
) time of life
please take a look around especially in the sub sections which I'm sure you'll find lots of tips and tricks for upgrading your tank
Cheers, Lee.

Hello and welcome to the forum Mr Force
The ZTZ is a bit unusual for a first tank, any particular reason you were attracted to it?
If you're interested it doing it up and getting a tank crew, Tamiya do a rather nice modern Japanese tank crew set that can easily be made to look Chinese
Enjoy the forum.
Mick.

Hello Malc Force,
Welcome to the club. Best thing I've ever done was join this forum. It's helped my technically challenged brain manage all sorts of RC Tank issues. Great bunch of guys, with loads of talent!
Enjoy,
Eric.

Thanks for the warm welcome
i will have a look at the Hyde club when this covid goes away, The reason i went for the ZTZ is it came along at the right price it was s/h but hardly used and in as good a condition as a new one, I am the first to admit my passion lies with ww2 tanks, it came along at the right price for an introduction to rc tanks, my other interest is model rc boats mainly warships and aircraft carriers, it wont be long before another tank is added, I like the Tamiya range and quality but their prices are far more expensive than the others.

Welcome. I have the ZTZ-99 (non-A) version and it's actually a decent tank for a modern tank. The front idlers system is a weak point though. I'm going to install an adjustable idler system from RCTankLegion.com meant for the T-90 to see how it works out. I'm just waiting for it to arrive.

Yup, once I get it fitted I'll post it up. I paid very little for the tank as compared to my other tanks so experiments will follow...
