Harder & Steenbeck Ultra (or more expensive Infinity) - super easy to use and clean. I will never return to cheap Chinese crappy airbrush.

Re: Airbrush best pros and cons
I am cheapman and I use a 9 euros free shipping airbrush and I painted all my stuff with it with (for me) outstanding results
So far, I see no reason to get a more expensive one...

I use a 30+ years old Desoutter and as long as it gets properly cleaned and the washers get changed regularly it works just fine.
If you buy the best you can afford YOU are more likely to be the reason for bad results,
if you buy rubbish you can then blame the air brush.

I think I am about to upset someone

Re: Airbrush best pros and cons
There is only ONE airbrush I will recommend, and it's the Iwata. I've been using one for years and it's the best airbrush I've ever owned (and I've had them all, Badger, Paasche, Testors, etc). I added the handle kit and it's the easiest to use airbrush I've ever owned, with the handle kit you get quick release for the needle and that makes clean-up a snap. They can be pricey but here in the states most guys buy from Hobby Lobby with an online coupon for 40% off and that makes it about $120 USD for the HP series. But if you ask me, $120 for a high quality tool that should last the rest of your life isn't bad at all.
Hope that helps.

I'm still using my 35 year old Paasche double action relic. Lost the handle about 20 years ago but the old soldier presses onward. I don't really use it very often so it will probably be the last one I ever own. I'm sure the newer types are easier to use and clean.

Re: Airbrush best pros and cons
I've used a Badger for years, can't remember the model but it cost a small fortune yet owes me nothing! With a collection of various jets and needles it'll tackle any job.
Pros: great way to put paint down
Cons: you have to strip and clean it!

Re: Airbrush best pros and cons
Just my opinion, but some cheap crappy Chinese air brushes are quite good. BUT it really depends on the model and production batch that you get from China. The quality fluctuates a lot and you don't know what you are going to get.
I've used the same no name Chinese airbrush for years and it has been quite good, but recently I upgraded to Iwata.
I have to agree with Max-U52, this is the only airbrush I would recommend.
Iwata HP.CP
Cheers

Re: Airbrush best pros and cons
I started with a cheap Aldi airbrush set. It was OK for the first series of slot car paint jobs. However, after a few paint jobs and cleaning with proper solvent, the seals deteriorated.
After establishing it was worth the investment, I also bought an Iwata HP.CR. What a revelation! Much smoother to use and provided better control. I still use the Aldi compressor, which is OK for painting slot cars, but it gets hot and cranky when I make it paint a 1/16 tank. My next purchase will be a compressor with a reservoir tank.
