Useful accessories- miscellany

Post by 43rdRecceReg »

Rooting around for parts, you come across bits that might 'come in handy' later. Or, maybe just fill that one remaining (therefore lonely) unoccupied space in the house :lolno:
I saw these press-fit drive shaft supports at Haya's, and thought that they might have passed unnoticed by some forum members:
Image
Then, I noticed this new-fangled recoil from HL on Forgebear's site:
Image
It works with the TK6.1 series of MFU's. I like the look of it, as it's possible to use the Panther/Sherman elevation unit with it, because it incorporates an elevation guide on the side of the unit. Servo recoil is also catered for, and looks like a doddle to set up. So much so, that I think I'll try to fit it into my Comet. (Famous last words... ;) )
Curiously, the guides themselves are available from rctank.de and can be used to adapt Airsoft guns, as well as the older HL recoil unit, to use the Sherman/Panther- style elevation unit. Or, perhaps even a servo arm.
These are the elevation motor arm guides You can see one fitted to the side of the metal recoil unit (above):
Image
If you check the StuG 111, Sherman of Jagdpanther Airsoft units out, you'll see that the guns gave these channels attached to the sides.
This is the elevation unit:
Image
Then, given the fickle nature of some Airsoft units, it's always handy to have a few of these units to hand- when the gun's 'firing blanks'
Image
Given the cost, it's economic prudence to keep a spare, or two.
In the unlikely event, you're not familiar with Forgebear's website, it's:
https://www.forgebeartanks.com/store/c1 ... ducts.html
Then I chanced upon a neat it of improvisation in the archive here. It's a new take on using parts from an aquarium shop to rejig the stock smoker arrangement, courtesy of 'Evad' (I'm guessing that's an anagram of 'Dave').
Anyone else who's seen useful bits and bobs, or even clever solutions, is welcome to post them here.

Oh, yes... I forgot to include this UK source I found, for all things LED. It's run by a lady (Jennifer) who clearly likes her chosen area of expertise, and has even written a book on the topic, apparently
https://www.smallscalelights.co.uk/prod ... connectors
I'm going to wire up blue/green (take your pick!) Convoy Light to my Panther, and came across this site when looking for micro connectors.

I am looking for those connectors for a year or so, but I cannot find the name! I just want to get the connectors and wire my own stuff.

EDIT: FOUND IT! "Machined pin header"

Thanks, Rad and Lee  If you spot any interesting new bits and parts, or solutions to age-old problems, do post them here

I thought it worthwhile buying the new Heng Long servo recoil. For one thing, it's much more compact than the Taigen all-in-one recoil and elevation unit (see pic below for comparison). For another,
It's compatible with the TK 6.1s units (Haya's 6.3 and 6.4 iterations), and the recent 'smoking barrel' revelation. You'll see a good example of the barrel smoker in MichaelC's recent post:
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=30256
If you look at this diagram, you'll see how it all connects up (yes, apparently, a 'Cannon' is a 'Connon' in China :lolno: ):
Image
I have the smoke unit that goes with the recoil. I'm not yet sure which tank in the collection is going to be blessed with it. However, I'm intending to use the recoil, and the Panther/Sherman elevation unit (see pic) in my Comet project.
New Hl servo recoil unit with Panther/StuG/Sherman type elevation unit.

HL unit compared with Taigen recoil. Clearly, even with the Sherman elevation unit, the HL type gives greater scope for positioning in smaller turrets, I think, than the Taigen. :)
HL unit- bottom view (I think :eh: )

Sorry about the slight overexposure on lighter (white and metallic) components. :D Anyway, I think you'll see how it's configured.

Thanks for all that Roy

Hmm, so, let me get this straight, the aluminium tube that connects to the end of the barrel, is guided as it slides back and forth by the hole in the aluminium plate

Aluminium sliding against aluminium, sadly the worse kind of scenario, aluminium probably has one of the worse friction coefficients out of any metal that could be used for such sliding parts. You could lube it up, but even a high performing silicon grease would struggle to stay in place. Or am I missing something.
I'd be very interested in how this performs compared to the plastic ones.

If you look at the closeup of the servo arm, Mick, you'll see that there's actually a bronze bush in the slot, and there are also washers either side of the pivot pin (though they're not evident here).
In reality, the action is very smooth. This is the unit used on Haya's Chieftain, and I've heard no complaints about it....yet. :D

...and here is the unit on full recoil:

I meant this place Roy (picture below), where the aluminium barrel extension slides through the hole in the bit that's like a bulkhead. If they rub together, I'm surprised it runs so smoothly. But that is good news if it's not affecting its running

I just know it's never a good idea to design something that has two aluminium surfaces rubbing together.
