Paint matching - HL Tiger 1

Can anyone advise the best paint match for a Heng Long Tiger 1 - grey version

The best Paint would be Dunkelgelb of course, by Model Masters! *ducks* *chuckles* *tries to be useful* When I painted my early StuG 111 'B' in the grey, I used Tamiya grey primer and Model Masters Panzer Grau 1950 \ FS36076. With the proper weathering, that turned out very good.

When I first got my HL Tiger I did some surgery on it to get the details the way I wanted. Then I repainted the entire thing with some cans of spray paint. My result may not be master class modeling but I feel that it is representative of an initial production Tiger 1 after some serious savage action outside of Leningrad. Any color will fade with exposure to weather and in different areas and at different shades. You probably need two or three different shades of gray for different areas and highlights and such. If you’re trying to cover a small area to match the HL factory it will be difficult but not impossible. Others more knowledge will help as well.

The German Army carried blocks of Paint in the stowage bin and when time and need warranted the crew using petrol soaked cloth, brooms and brushes would apply the paint on those parts of the Tank needing it, The overall look was not exactly "Showroom"

Just to show you what I did and what I did it with. From my research online I found that there were very few Tigers painted gray. Less than 20 and they all went clanking their way off to the eastern front. So I don’t know how much you’re concerned with making an accurate model of a Tiger or just a freestyle generic Tiger. The detail parts and placement are dependent upon the time and theatre or unit your modeling. Having said all that, as long as you have fun it doesn’t really matter

I'm not planning a full re-paint this time on this tank its more for adding the extra flaps over the tracks _ do they have a special name I dont know - I have a habit of making up my own names for parts LOL

Then I will just be doing some weathering as I did on my Sherman

I don't think the Heng Long grey Tiger 1 colour is close enough to the correct colour, you may have to give it a blow over so that you'll be able to match the colour, and be able to do touch ups in the future.
Unless you mix your own paints for a match for those odd parts you want to add.
