I live in fear of the crane arm bending like a banana in the summer sun to be honest

Going to have to figure out how to brace it somehow.
Found a couple of suitable axial bearings on fleabay for the crane cab so all good there, the gear generator in Fusion360 seems to be pretty robust so that will be tomorrows job - I have some 9g gearhead servo's that will take care of rotation and some N20 gear motors for the crane operation so all good there. I'm thinking that a 5 or 6 cell NiMH pack makes a good counter weight for the crane cab, no?

Is that image from an STL file? If so, how do you remove the wheels to print it?

it´s a question of the material..
PLA becomes soft above 60 °
ABS or carbon-reinforced PETG should be stable enough

Hopefully I'll be able to spare some time this weekend to advance this

I do worry that it won't have the capacity to lift and deploy the pontoons, but we'll have to see...

Yes it will, remember those motors i showed you, they are a decent size and massive torque. Just need to get you jib and crane base solid and your on a winner

In the CAD world its easy - what you are looking at is called an 'Assembly', made up of many discrete parts. The tyres are their own individual model that I can export and print independently from the rest of the assembly in either TPU or TPE filament.
All you need is a printer that can handle that material - in the case of TPU you need to think of pushing a wet noodle down a drinking straw - the closer and straighter path the better.
I recommend the Anet A8 for tyres because it has a direct drive from the feed motor right down into the extruder - little room for the filament to wriggle out
If you can get a super flexible PLA filament, then you can get similar results from a bowden drive printer like the Creality family, but my one known good supplier (Rigd.ink) exited the market a while back so we are stuck with what we have

Currently in the UK I'm using Sainsmart TPU - Ninjaflex might be more readly available in the US and elsewhere
