Lubrication for metal gearboxes

Post by wibblywobbly »

I decided to try this ages ago as I ride a motorcycle, and the drive chains last 20,000 miles under immense pressure when properly lubricated.

I have previously tried spray on chain grease to lubricate my HL gearboxes, the bonus being that it contains a solvent so it runs down into all the nooks and crannies and then the solvent evaporates off, leaving the grease where you want it. PJ1 was good, but prone to flying off leaving residue inside the hull.

What you you can now buy is Wurth Dry Chain lubricant. This is a powder that is dissolved in a solvent. Shake the can for 3 minutes, spray it into the gearbox, wait 30 minutes for the solvent to evaporate and you have a clear, clean dry lubricant all over your gears and bearings. It doesn't fly off much either.

A huge can costs about £11, but you can buy a smaller one for around £6.

Thats un-canny I have just started working as a rep for Wurth in the Stoke area. Never thought I would see our products on here, maybe I should mention that our chain wax is good for model tanks next time I am with a customer.  ;D ;D

Ok, let me know how much you can get the large cans for, the Wurth dry chain lube is the best on the market, it's what I use on my Tiger 1050, and all of my friends use it too. You can PM me with a price if you like.

Cheers
