Rubber tyres for Walker Bulldog

Post by Alstone »

I posted this on another forum in reply to a query, so I thought I may as well post it on here, It's a nice solution to rubber road wheels for the Bulldog.

I bought a length of black shrink tube 40mm diameter, the bulldog road wheels are 42mm diameter so cut off a piece of tube 12mm wide stretch over the road wheel and shrink with a heat source, the tube will shrink down the sides of the wheel forming a well fitted tyre which is hard to remove with out cutting it off also the road wheel only increases diameter by 1mm.

Hi there is shrink wrap with glue on the inside if you can get hold of it ,or you could use a glue gun to put glue around the wheel then put shrink wrap over when you heat it up the glue will stick the shrink wrap to the wheels.

The only place I know that sells it is RS Components, but I think you need an account with them also it's expensive. :(

Why not get some of this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/38-1mm-BLACK-HEATSHRINK-TUBING-HEAT-SHRINK-per-half-mtr_W0QQitemZ390043724271QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Cars_Parts_Vehicles_Terminals_Cabling_ET?hash=item5ad06ae9ef&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

38.1mm Black heat shrink tube, this will easily stretch over a Bulldogs wheels, also at £2.63 including postage for half a meter as got to be good.

The adhesive lined heat shrink is nor really necessary for the Bulldog wheels as normal tube will not move after fitting.

I use a micro gas torch to shrink the tube, but a guy on another forum where I also posted this tip, has used hot water to shrink the tube with good results
