Play in motor drove shaft

Hi all. Fitting upgraded motors to my HL KT.

I noticed that when I was putting them in, there is about 1mm left/right play in the main drive shaft.

On closer inspection there is a slight kink in the motor wall that opens the gap allowing this to happen.

Firstly, how easy is it to strip the motor and casing to straighten and secondly, is it okay as is? I suspect that the second question is dependent upon wear and tear issues and what to expect given the 1mm play.

Also, whomever built my HL KT has also snipped the receiver wire!!!

I’ve attached photos. When I work out how to attach videos (host elsewhere and link?) I’ll let you see the play properly.

Stripping is easy. Just a bunch of screws to undo then it all comes apart. Watch out for the location of parts. Some play can be there due to poor meshing of cogs. Mine does have axial play.

Thanks for the quick response.

After a bit more reading I see that the issue with the receiver wire isn’t an issue and that’s the length it comes standard as.

I took the liberty of installing magnets so that I don’t need to unscrew it to get in to it but need to rethink the height of them - need them as thin as possible. Hacking away at the plastic doesn’t logically feel like the right thing to do but may also sort it.

Upgraded the speaker and unplugged the smoker unit. Going to upgrade to the cooler fan version.

You don't say play in motor bearings so l guess that's not the issue. I assume then that the play is in the shafts ability to be pushed back and forth into or through the can. All motors will have a small amount of play - the cheaper the motor the more play. Fitting shims costs time and money.

However, when the motor receives power the armature becomes a spinning magnet which pulls and pushes itself to and away from the two permanent magents inside the can walls. As it does so the armature adjusts its position in the can to optimise its position with the permanent magnets field. This is the position the the motor shaft should be.

A small amount of play allows the armature to find this position so is okay if you are running straight cut gears and not bevels (which try to push apart).

HL brushed cans are not intended to be taken apart but simply replaced when they show signs of wear. At the very low price they cost l would suggest thats what you do if you are still not happy.

Sorry, I should have been clearer.

The play is in the first cog wheel connected to the arm that the sprocket attaches to. The walls of the right drive unit open slightly further than the left drive.

So I bent it back.But I did contact seller

The short wire from the mfu is the antenna. They are that length as 2.4gigs don't need much of an antenna.

Quite possibly, but he knew what he was doing! The antenna length need to be one (or more) times the wave length and the 2.4ghz wave length is very short. Much more convenient than the older frequencies we had.
