Heng Long Panther G uncontrolled super spin

Post by Robert45 »

Hello,

Every now and then I charge batteries, load the controller and tank, power up and go through all the commands to verify the tank is still functioning. These things are very needy.

What a surprise, after power on to the tank and ignition on from the controller, the tank went into an uncontrolled super spin. Sabotage!!!!

The tank is only 6 mos old.

The only upgrades I have done is metal drive/idlers and tracks.

Has experience shown that this is a fault with the electronics module, mine is a 5.2 version?

Thankyou

FInally got around to investigating the cause of the spinning upon power up in Panther G and I thought I would also look into the no cannon elevation/airsoft shoot in the Panther A.

Removed the 5.3 MFU from Panther G and installed into Panther A. Using the Panther G controller, upon powering up Panther A, super spin travelled with the Panther G MFU/controller.

Panther A had also a few problems with its MFU/controller, no cannon elevation or Airsoft shoot. After the above R&R, both elevation and Airsoft shoot now worked in Panther A.

Installed Panther A MFU into Panther G. Using Panther A's controller, Panther G now had no super spin but the no cannon elevation/Airsoft travelled with the Panther A's MFU/controller.

At this time it seems as if the 2 MFU's are at fault but with different issues.
Panther A MFU - no elev or air soft shoot
Panther G MFU - uncontrolled super spin upon power

Maybe I have to swap the controllers also.......hmmmmm.

Were they both new when you bought them? Are both the transmitters identical or is one all black and the other has a silver panel?

If they were new then the transmitters and MFUs should be version matched though each tank set could be different versions. A silver snickered transmitter is a later version than a black one, both 2.4 mgs, but their MFUs are not compatible and neither is the MFUs with tanks. Upgrading a V3.0 with a 5.3 requires rewiring and a permanent live supply added to the turret harness or the gun won't fire and gun elevation is impacted. Sorry l can't remember precise wiring issues but l did the upgrade over a year ago.

Thanks for the info.

The takeaway, if I understand you, is beware of all the different versions of the MFU's and the different Controller versions. Nothing is easy, right?

Plus the internal hull and turret wiring, all 3 must match or be modified to match.

Has anyone confirmed that the pin-outs of the 8 wire harness are the same?

Did you swap the 8 wire harness along with the MFU's and controllers? You might try that.

Also check that all connectors of the harness are seated on each individual pin of the MFU and the daughter board mounted to the top hull.

If and when you need to replace either MFU, be sure of what you're ordering. All 3 known 2.4 Ghz MFU's before version 6.0 (version 5.2 with silver label and black badged controller, version 5.3 silver label and silver badged controller and version 5.3S gold label and silver badged controller) are NOT compatible with the other versions. I state this with personal experience and several extra gold label MFU's.

While you're at it, check every solder joint to the boards, motor leads and airsoft unit.

Venting complete. I may have this in the wrong forum.

The original Panther G receiver is a Version 4.
The original Panther G transmitter is black label with silver lettering plus NO buttons on top left and right, only caps where the buttons would go.

So then to fix the Panther G uncontrolled spin I need to buy a Version 4 receiver, right?

I upgraded the Panther A from rx13 to rx18.

That means I installed a TK-YL101-3 with an 04 crystal as well as an 04 crystal in the old style silver labeled with 'Sender radio control' transmitter.

Upon Panther A power on (light on front of tank blinking) and transmitter power on (red light), ignition key on transmitter depressed. Motor sound came on and light on front of tank ceased blinking. Tracks worked: front/rear/turn. Turret traversed. Machine gun sound ok. NO cannon up/down and NO cannon shoot.

This means I have to rewire the 8 pin conn, right?

The rx18, ref picture, I received and installed in the Panther A had Version 7 inscribed on PCB, ref picture, and I noticed that I probably burned/shorted D1, ref picture.

This means I have to get a Version 7 rx18, right?

Have you thought about just upgrading to a Taigen radio set? They have much better motor controls on them as compared to the HL radios.

They're down in your neck of the woods. One of the best suppliers in the US, reasonably priced and they ship fast, too. They do have some the newer version 3 that lets you shut off that annoying track recoil. All you'd need is the wiring set to go with it
