HL vs Taigen Metal Tracks

Post by Jimster »

Quick question folks regarding my Tiger 1 build. Is there a difference between Heng Long metal tracks and Taigen metal tracks? I’ve switched to an all Taigen metal system except for the tracks. I’ve retained the Heng Long metal tracks and during “backyard maneuvers” the driver’s side track tends to walk up over the sprocket teeth. Not all the way off. I’ve adjusted track tension up and down the scale. Very annoying. Should I purchase Taigen metal tracks?

This is a purely personal view but I have Taigen metal tracks on everything except my Halftracks and I like the fit and the longevity of them.
And I have never had to "Blue" them as they come with a very good stain out of the box.
You might like to rub a strip of wet and dry between the teeth of the sprocket and just to make sure its not the sprockett you should swap the tracks to see if that cures the problem.

Jarndice, your personal opinion carries a lot of weight with me. I just tried to fit my Heng Long metal sprockets onto my Taigen drive shafts but the don’t fit the shaft. The HL sprocket’s teeth seem to be an ever so slightly different width but spacing is the same. I think I’ll order some Taigen early Tiger metal tracks from IMEX. That way it’ll be completely Taigen.

I have not had HL metal tracks but I know that Mato metal tracks don't work well with an all Taigen system. I'd say go for Taigen tracks. They are very good.

2x early Tiger 1's made from parts of HL, Taigen, Mato and whatever I saw suitable.

Boo hoo. I ordered the Taigen tracks online late last night but Eric at IMEX called me this morning and said they are unfortunately out of stock. He did suggest I tighten the tension a bit to see if that helps. He also confirmed that Taigen and Heng Long tracks are not exactly the same.

Dave and Julie (Forgebear Tanks) show Taigen Tiger1, both early and late model, metal tracks in stock for £42.99. Any help?

Yes that helps. I like Forgebear and I’ve purchased many things from them but the overseas shipping can get harsh. I may just bite the bullet and order from them anyway. Thanks for the suggestion!

Just ordered them from Forgebear. Only $20 more than IMEX it’s worth it.

Henglong tracks are open pin, so the pins are only enclosed at either end. On taigen tracks they are closed pin, the pins are fully enclosed. This makes them stronger. They also have open guide horns like the real thing, where HL are solid.
