Hi from Essex

Post by afterdark »

Hi All

I have just joined up with the hope of learning a little from the hive mind to help my scratch build 1/8 scale project. Its a little different from the normal RC build in that it is goign to be using a number of Rasberry Pi boards, 3D printed parts and (hopefully) some Augmented reality feature

This is a long standing dream I have had since I was a kid and I am finally in the proisionto have the finances and some of the expertises needed to bring it to life

I appologise in advance for all the daft question and am looking forward to being able to contribute back to this community

Please feel free to ask any questions if you want to know more about this little project

To get the ball rolling, does any one have any experience with these? (https://wheelspinmodels.co.uk/i/264723/) I am looking at getting a couple, paired with a suitable pair of 6S LiPo cellss to provide main locomotion, after gearing them down around 15:1. I am expecting the model to come in at arouns 1200mm in lenght and weight soemwhere inthe 10-20kg I guess (and this is a bit of a guess at the moment)

Appreciate any views anyone might hav, good or bad, as I am quite new to the whole world of brushless motors & ESC's

Thanks for your time

Paul

There are times when spellcheckers can be of use, if followed. I'm sure you didn't intend to write "..Shat I have..'" :lolno: :lolno: :D
Anyway, welcome again and do allow us to follow that curve! Especially with pics and diags.

Don't you worry about it, it's good to have a sense of humour about such things

Hi Paul. We are at least in the same county. No local clubs though - maybe we should start one! 1/8th is big - hope you have a Transit with loading ramps.

I used to have HobbyWing as one of my 1/10 race sponsors and their motor and ESC programme designers are amongst the best out there. Highly recommended. If you buy from Wheelspin then tell Dave JT passes on his best wishes. That should either get you a 10% discount or they'll slam the phone down on you!

Ha! one of the things on my list is to try and find a local club to get more involved with this stuff so maybe we should! What part of sunny Essex are you now in?

I actually ordered an assortment of goodies from Wheelspin yesterday morning... ended up going for a Hobbywing XR8-Plus 150A ESC Combo With 4274SD G2 2250kv Motor and 16000mAh 6S 22.2V 30C LiPo Battery - Overlander SupersportXL (although I only bought one of each for now just so I can create the parts and ensure everything is going to fit together , the other one will come closer to build completion as they are not cheap toys LOL!)

Rest assured the HobbyWing motors are fast and so reliable l only ran 3 over 6 seasons and just replaced the ball races each year. They are still as strong as ever.
However, you'll be looking for torque but with enough gearing you'll be able to pull a caravan!

I'm down south of the county but racing took me all around the UK so l don't mind travelling if there's a good weekend to be had. How do you plan to transport your new born?
