Does anyone know how winches on WWII tanks were powered, I/e Electrical, hydraulic, coupled to the engine?

American,British,or German. This brought to mind another question that may be related to yours.Were all turrets electric? If so it would seem that winches would be electric, and other systems as well.great question now where to find the answer?m16 with power wench,electric?

The M31 TRV had a winch that used a PTO  from the transmission.  The diesel powered M31B1s PTO was at the front of the twin diesels.

Russian? what technology did they have at the time? what systems did they generaly use?

What specific equipment?  It depends on the application and equipment.

Recovery winch, man enough to pull a tank.

Hi folks, ive whipped something up quickly for the back of my T-34 ARV. Please feel free to comment, too modern looking? or  in keeping with the period? Any suggestions are more then welcome. (obviousley no chains / cables fitted yet)

Great idea Luke using a motorbike chain but realisticly it wouldnt be strong enough to pull a tank but 10 out of 10 for imagination

Cool, just the sort of feed back i was after. I'll have a re-think. On the few drawings i have, the rear has just got a hole with a cable coming out of it, a bit boring to look at, still early days yet.
