Zimmerit for Tigers

I want to try out doing my own zimmerit instead of the rubber bits. What's the best thing to use? Theres putty for o think bit not sure where to get it. I found some tools for zimmerit on eBay which could work with putty.

Yellow or white milliput and a plain screwdiver works like a charm for me. Absolutelly no need in zimmerit tools.

I dislike the wheel way a lot. It looks so symmetric and so perfect that is way way unrealistic. Also in some tanks you cannot use it propperly, just because some areas are unreacheable. Im my opinion to use the wheel is just for saving time... And about the resin Zim... I just wont never ever use them. Nothing can beat the look of a screwdiver. I just love how it looks in my tanks. This PIV is for sale just in case someone falls in love with it, lol.

I used a hot screwdriver on my F05 Tiger. Once you get the hang of it, the effect is excellent

I used milliput on my Panzer IV. Put a few drops of water onto a sheet of cling film, add a roughly flattened sheet of putty, then another sheet of damp clingfilm and roll it out with a rolling pin. Then it's really easy to cut to shape and stick onto the tank. I had a small plastic tool from a smartphone repair kit that I sanded down to a wedge shape and alternated the pattern on each column of zim. It took a while but wasn't difficult and I'm happy with the way it turned out. host the pictures on a third party hosting site like imgur for instance, then use the Img button in the button bar above the edit window to embed them. Put the direct link to the jpg in between the [img]and[/img] and it should work.

If time is money, or you are unsure of your skill use atak sheets. If you go at it by hand with a flat head screw driver practice on something else first and use Aves apoxie sculpt not milliputy, it has much less grit, more strength when dry, sands well, adheres well and a longer pot life or working time. If you do it by hand I would very lightly wet sand the whole tank after you finish as this makes the Zim less rough and slightly worn with a 320 sanding sponge.

Look carefully at real photos, most people make it to thick or heavy for the scale.

I might do that but I'm always a bit wary of third party image hosting after the photobucket debacle. It would be much easier if I could just upload them here. I could last time I tried so not sure when it changed?
