Hi from Donny

Post by wideglide »

Hi
I have visited this site many times has a guest and found the amount of knowledge phenomenal and the willingness to help other people who like me are novices admirable so I finally decided to join.
I'm in 63 years old, retired and have always had a keen interest in History. The era that takes up a lot of my time is the 1400s in England closely followed by WW2. Unfortunately whatever I am interested in I tend to [as I have been told on numerous occasions] concentrate on what others call the minutiae.I apologise for this if I bore any members with my never ending queries in the future.
I am in the process of commissioning a model of Bobby Woll's Normandy Tiger.Commissioning! I can hear you say, well, I have no aptitude what so ever when it comes to working with my hands so rather than waste money and have a complete eyesore I contacted someone who judging by his work is very capable but who by his own admission [which is commendable] will have to carry out research and any help I can provide would be willingly received.I therefore anticipate numerous pleas for help in the not too distant future.
Thanks for accepting me as member and I look forward to picking your collective brains

From Henry V and Agincourt, to the Ardennes and WW2: that's quite enough to keep anyone busy, Donny. 8O Luckily WW2 only lasted just shy of six years, but our tussles with our neighbours over the channel- one 'Hundred Years'... :D
It's truly amazing how long people can hold grudges, eh? :haha:
Welcome, and don't worry about the detailed enquiries: they're the most challenging. Do add pics of your commission, as and when they become available. Pics are a window into someone else's world, but it's not a problem if you
find it tricky to do.

Welcome. Do not denigrate your own abilities. I was very nervous about my own ability when I started. However I received a huge amount of support and assistance from fellow members and though still lacking in confidence am able to produce a reasonably acceptable result. Buy a cheap(ish) tank and just have a go. You will only find help and assistance here. We get vicarious pleasure from others achievements,.

So, is Donny a name or location:

Donnybrook?
Donegal?
Doncaster?

Welcome along. If Tigers are your thing, then you may already know of David Byrden's site. It is the home of most Tiger minutiae.

What is the basis of your Tiger? Tamiya, Heng Long, Taigen or perhaps Trumpeter or Hobby Boss?

Hi
Many thanks for the welcome.Donny is Doncaster. The Tank is going to be a Taigen with all the metal parts.I will try and provide pics.I appreciate your comments Silversurfer1947 but after all these years I do believe I have no talent in this field and I am amazed by people who can bring a model to life.My first question if I can pose it on this page is Woll's Tiger was 212.Therefore the Liebestandarte insignia would be front right but where was the rhombus?
