Lert tries white wash for the first time

Post by Lert »

My old JagdPanther's paint job kept bugging me. It wasn't bad per say but it was to dark for my taste. I've been thinking about redoing it for some time now. In a flash of braindead I decided to raid my garage for some calcium powder based seam-filler / whitener (for seams between tiles in the kitchen / bathroom) and apply it, feeling quite clever in doing things more historically accurate than most of you out there.

I tried to make it quite messy, applying it liberally with a brush, like it would've been done in the field. I'm moderately pleased with the result so far, might just add some streaks and some spots where the whitewash has been worn away, but I'm gonna sit on that decision for a bit.

The pictures make it look better covered than it is to the naked eye.

You seem to be following the right principle, although the finish is possibly a shade too 'brilliant white'. It's almost 'dazzling white', so to speak 8O Then again, if it had been applied to a coat of Dunkelgrau, the effect might have been a little more muted. In a gloomy winter setting, I think your tank would have stood out a little too much; ah..but maybe not.

You're not wrong at all. I'm probably going to add some streaks and some more weathering, mute it a bit. It really is a bit less bright IRL, but still quite white.
