1/35 kit to check detail or book?

Going to spruce up old HENGLONG panther. Found out that 2018 is the year of the Panther according to some modelling forums a New 1/35 model kits are out and very good detail.
Is it better to buy a few more books or a kit for checking detail. Only the bare hull and turret are stock its the exterior i am unsure about.

In my experience, small scale model kits vary in accuracy considerably, the only truly verifiable way to get authenticity is to buy reputable books, genuine blueprints etc.

Well bought some books on Tiger 1 and the Panther.
The Germans had recycling yards to keep up with production , photo of Panther turrets for reuse.
Does this mean that anything is possible, not just the hybrid tanks from the training school used towards the end of the war.
If turrets were saved and reused why not the hull if turret was damaged beyond repair?

I use both. Books to get the definitive views of areas on the 1/1 scale real thing as well as paint schemes in use. 1/72 or 1/35 kits for research if I want to see how said paint scheme is going to look on my 1/16 or 1/6 Build ( or just for fun ;o)

As you say anything was possible, especially at the end of the war. Some were even mass produced like the SU76i and the PanzerV/IV.

Most folks feel more comfortable with mix-and-matches if there are historical photos or documents to show the beast is not a flight of fancy made by Syd from Toy Story.
