Table vice at Aldi

Whilst shopping in Aldi for milk and a few bits I spotted this for £5.95 and grabbed one



It's really solid and very adjustable. I have a small 30mm bench vice but sometimes it really isn't up to the job.

Hi Alwyn, I bought one of these a few years back for a bit more than Aldi are asking but it is a nice bit of kit and very versatile,
The only thing I did not like was the thin rubber vise grips but otherwise worth every penny.

Looks like a real bargain at that price, Alwyn. The ball joint below the jaws is the bit that permits 360 deg rotation, I take.? It almost appears as if it allows the jaws to be canted over at various angles...

Just had a quick peek at Amazon, for comparative purposes, and the same vice appears there branded as 'Silverline', 'Rolson', and 'Am-Tech at more than double the price.

Presumably, it has £6.00 of paint on it...
Aldi do sell decent products though, at bargain basement prices. Unfortunately, the nearest one to me is 76 miles away.

I've never bought on line from Aldi before. In fact, it has never crossed my mind, so thanks for that.
I'll have to check their delivery policy. ...and.
This is what they say about postcodes and deliveries:
"......Can you deliver to my location?
While geographical location can restrict some of the delivery services we are able to offer on some products, we deliver to most postal areas in mainland UK.
During checkout, you can use the Address Lookup field to find your required delivery address, and the available options will be presented to you based on this..."
This means that, like many others, they could well apply a surcharge to my postcode. Still, it shouldn't be as much as £6

I have one of those Aldi vices and find it's perfect for working on model tanks. I also have the suction cup version which is absolutely useless at sticking to my timber bench but it works well for small jobs that don't need a firm base. For the price they are hard to beat.

While we're on the subject of recommending useful tools, can I just mention these artist's palette (spatula) knives. They're only £5.50 on Ebay and are designed specifically for used with acrylic paints. I've been using them to apply
superfine Milliput and VJ Putty to my scratch build efforts, as well as detail fixes on others. They're very flexible, and make Panzer Pampering so much easier.
No doubt hardcore modellers here already have these or similar, but there make for a really good finish.
What's more I've seen then advertised singly at £2.50 each. Soooo...£5.50 is a bargain. By the way, given near parity between the £ and the $ these days, rough conversions should be easier than ever for our US cousins to work out..
