Ebay

Post by wibblywobbly »

I got this lenghty email today, it seems to be saying...errr...nothing at all...
eBay is happy to announce plans to further improve the customer experience by intermediating payments on our Marketplace platform. In doing so, eBay will manage the payments flow, simplifying the end-to-end experience for both buyers and sellers. We have signed an agreement with Adyen, a leading global payments processor, to become our primary payments processing partner. PayPal, a long-time eBay partner, will be a payments option at checkout for eBay buyers.

You do not need to take any action at this time. The transition to full payments intermediation will be a multi-year journey.

Over the past three years, eBay has transformed its business to drive the best choice, most relevance and most powerful selling platform. Building out our payments capabilities is the next step in that strategy.

Payments intermediation will bring significant benefits for eBay sellers. You can expect a simplified pricing structure, more predictable access to funds, and most sellers can expect their costs of payments processing to be reduced. We’re also working on ways to provide sellers a central place to track and manage their business, which can soon include payments information.

By offering buyers more choice in how they pay and expanding payment options into more geographies, eBay believes sellers will be able to reach more buyers and improve conversion.

The transition to full payments intermediation will be a multi-year journey. eBay will begin intermediation on a small scale in North America starting in the second half of 2018, expanding in 2019 under the terms of the Operating Agreement with PayPal. In 2021, we expect to have transitioned a majority of Marketplace customers to the new payments experience.

Again, you do not need to take any action at this time. As eBay gets closer to the initial phase of its intermediation efforts, we will share more details about this process and next steps for sellers. In the meantime, please read the eBay Inc announcement for further information. For any immediate questions or to share feedback, please email paymentsinfouk@ebay.com.

We’re looking forward to what’s next, and to getting there with you.
"The transition to full payments intermediation will be a multi-year journey."...what on earth does that mean?

"Building out our payments capabilities "????

"By offering buyers more choice in how they pay and expanding payment options into more geographies,"...wow, whatever that might be it sounds impressive.

"As eBay gets closer to the initial phase of its intermediation efforts, we will share more details about this process and next steps for sellers" ...No...please don't do that! lol

Did they mean to say that Paypal is fleecing Ebay buyers and sellers with fees so we have found someone cheaper?

I caught a bit on BBC news. Apparently the new "partner" will benefit both buyers and sellers. The implication is that Paypal will ultimately be phased out after 2020. If so, I am guessing Paypal will suffer hugely. Interesting that they were only hived off from eBay in 2015

It's legalese for we're threatening PayPal; probably..... I think the critical part is no action at this time. Dave (forgebear) will probably get more information as a business?

Yes Richard, It would appear that E-BAY have been hoist by their own petard,
They flogged off Pay-Pal for a quick profit and now find that they should have clung on to it for a much bigger profit :{
Do you know I have no sympathy for them at all.
So much for Gordon Gecko's "Greed is Good". :haha: :haha:

I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

Well as far as I am concerned ebay will only charge us more. When they removed the ability of the buyer paying by any other means than PayPal they began their besotted course to eliminate any means to pay except through them. And then they noticed that sellers were using a low selling price but exorbitant shipping to avoid paying their near usery fees. All in the BS name of making the buying and selling experience "safer" for us. What a lie that was, and is.

The way I read their little BS missive is that "if you think we are going to do you a favor get out the vaseline and make sure the sand is out of it." This rancid outfit sits in the socialistic state of Kalifornia and uses that moronic "safer" as the excuse to enjoy full monopolistic power over those that utilize their services. I have a saying I keep in my head, "You may be safe or free as the terms are mutually exclusive." And to be safe is to live in a slave state. I think that is why us Yanks fight so hard to retain our right to keep and bear arms.

Simply put? I don't trust ebay to do anything to benefit me. It will simply drive up costs associated with doing business through them.

Be well,
Steve

As far as I have always known PayPal is a subsidiary of eBay. It is its own company but I believe ownership and eBay ownership is mutual. Perhaps this is a new company that the ownership is buying and incorporating into their structure.

PayPal was originally a separate company which became a wholly owned subsidiary in 2003. In 2015 it was hived off and since then has not been part of the same group. It is a separately traded public company.
