Another nashorn!

Post by tomhugill »

I picked up my nashorn last weekend and it's a real peach! Always printing is stunningly good, so much so I don't think any preparation past priming will be needed.

For this build I'll be taking stuff in a slightly different order to Richards and concentrate on the mechanical side first, then the electrics and finally the detail and paint. ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

To this end I started looking what I would need to make her a robust runner. Gearbox wise it initially looked like I'd either need 3 shaft standard gears or low profile units which I'm not a fan of. However on further inspection I found that's 4 shaft taigens would fit so to this end I bought a pair of the black steel tiger 4:1 gearboxes off forgebear and thanks to the extra mounting hole alwyns added all I had to do was snip off the mounting nipples on one side and then fit the gears as normal. I've also bought a set of taigen tracks with extra links and metal sprockets and idlers. I'm also looking at the metal wheels with rubber tyres. These will be paired with a Clark tk24, visiting fr7 speaker with customer enclosure and a vampire battle system (think I've got my head round sensor placement). Watch this space for the rest of the chassis work! Image

I’ve seen this in the flesh & the detail is absolutely stunning, I even caressed the barrel. I wish my printer was that good.
It’s a real credit to Alwyn!
Good luck with the build

Looks like every one of these is going to a home that is going to make an exemplary job of the build.

Being only too happy to pinch ideas, I am eager to find out where you will fit the IR sensors.

Hey Richard, I'm going to open up the drivers hatch for the front one, use the two grates for the side one and probably have to cut a recess in the back for the rear one, although I'm trying to figure a better way for the rear one.

A real credit to Alwyn, Tom, for exemplary detailed work. It's a beaut; even at this stage. I shall enjoy following your progress and customisation choices. Having witnessed the lovely finishing touches to the Cromwell, and all the internal tweaks, as well as some other excellent pieces of artisan handiwork, this will doubtless be another model fit to grace anyone's collection.
