Which is better? 2.4 or 2.7 GHz?

Post by Tiger111 »

Greetings all the guests and fellow members here at the forum!
Today I'm posting a quick question regarding the 2.4 versions of RC tanks compared to 2.7 GHz. First off, I wish to ask, which one is better??? I wish to purchase a HL M4 Sherman from one of two different websites however the one that is cheaper is labeled as 2.7GHz, the other more expensive 2.4 GHz. I have no idea or any electrical knowledge (yet) to know the difference between the two. Should I go with the 2.7 GHz one? Is it an older model or something? I have so many questions! Also one quick question, is it possible to run two tanks and have them battle if they're both 2.4 GHz? Henglong has a problem where the socket to change transmitter channels is missing. I don't wish to have two tanks running at the same time with the same controller! Thank you for any feedback and I bid you a great day! :D
Them: WHY do you like tanks so much?
Me: Well, let's see.... It's an all terrain machine of steel with a GUN mounted to the top. The REAL question SHOULD be, why WOULDN'T I like tanks "so much"..... 8)

I suspect 2.7GHz is a typo for 27MHz and would go for the 2.4GHz unless you're planning on replacing the radio gear with Elmod/Clark etc.

2.4GHz is a digital system so it's virtually impossible for signal clash - which is why there is slot for a crystal.

Hi, As Robw says that is a typo, there is 27 MHz Analogue this gives a limited range and the very good chance of having whoever has the strongest transmitter taking over your Tank and anyone else's in the immediate area and then there is 2.4 GHz Digital which guarantees you will not get your Tank hi-jacked and will give you a greater range,
No one makes 27 MHz Analogue Tanks anymore and I strongly recommend you avoid buying one,
The Heng Long Transmitter runs in a closed circuit which makes it able to run one Heng Long Tank ,If you have two Heng Long Tanks you will need two Heng Long Transmitters and so on.
If you want to use a transmitter to run more than one Tank you will have to buy an aftermarket Transmitter and receiver, as well as having to replace your RX18 Control Board with an aftermarket Control Board,
Aftermarket Digital Transmitters can be programmed to run many Tanks BUT each Tank will need its own receiver and up until recently I would have said a new control board But recently TAIGEN have introduced a new Control board which can be used with Taigens latest transmitter or with an aftermarket Transmitter and receiver, it has an added advantage of being the cheapest aftermarket system available,
It is the same size as the RX18 and you just change the plugs over and its ready.
Shaun.

Thank you! Its great news that 27 MHz is a BAD choice! I wouldn't want to be casually driving my Sherman then it suddenly having "a mind on its own" and taking off on me! :haha:

27 is not necessarily a bad choice!

Generally a 27MHz tank is cheaper, and with a RCTanksAustralia RC5HL card and a 6-8 Ch radio, you have 2.4 GHz tank, hobby grade radio and the ability to eliminate track recoil with relays.

Your absolutely right but I figured a newbie didn't need even more confusion in a part of our hobby that has been known to drive a strong man to drink.
I am not sure if
www.rctanksaustralia.com
Has any RC5HL cards in stock although Ian (Tankbear) at
www.rctankelectronics.com
certainly does and to his ever living wonderment is trying to get more of RC Tank Australia products on his site.
I know how confusing working with a Heng Long/Taigen closed R/C system is if you have never operated such "Toys",
Most people assume that all R/C transmitters and receivers are the same and are easily swapped from "Toy" to "Toy", we know otherwise,
we also know that until the RC5HL and now Taigens V2 that Heng Long and Taigens R/C system were out there on their own and could not be operated with other Transmitters now that is beginning to change,
Upon reflection doing it the way that Heng Long did when they first offered CHEAP R/C Tanks was probably the only way to keep the price down but a new Digital Transmitter is much better priced than it was just a few years ago and for all that Taigens V2 control Board is a great and Cheap advance it still has a long way to go to compete with the aftermarket boards it is up against.

True enough.

I've found that Kevin Grannum has been a great help in setting up my 27MHz tank with RC5HL. For the most part its plug and play.

I wish those with RC knowledge here would help educate the rest of us. Everyone has been great with HL wiring assistance, but we need a knowledge bank of info to make the leap to setting-up aftermarket boards. I get receivers and servoes in principle, but not the rest.
