Mark 1 tanks? Opinions welcome.

I'm on the verge of ordering a Mark 1 1:8 Tiger 1. Anybody have experience with Mark 1 tanks?
I've been looking at that 1:8 Heng Long all metal Tiger too, but it's Heng Long. The track recoil and sound seem sub par for the price.

Are you completely committed to 1/8? They do have some great tanks, but that's all. No accessories to speak of, and I've rarely even seen Tank Commanders in that scale. For the price of the HL tiger One you can find a decent 1/6 vehicle with little trouble and the range of accessories is, well, kinda like comparing my old Mini Base to a Ferrari F-40. The Mini was cool and all, but the Ferrari ... now we're talkin'.

From the little I know about you, you'll want all the extra little details to make it a better model, and the choices in 1/6 are pretty amazing. Take just the MG-34 for example. The bolt works, the barrel is removable, the bi-pod legs are fully functional, the ammo drum is removable, open-able, and has a belt of ammo inside, and the cover opens for loading. Virtually a little model in itself. In the MG-42 you can swap out barrels, just like the real thing.

The 1/8 tanks are indeed very cool, and in the end it's your money and I'm just a voice in the crowd, but I hope you'll pause to be sure. For that amount of coin you don't want any later regrets, can ya dig it?

Due to cost, yes, only 1:8. I was going to make a low bid offer on the HL Tiger 1:8. You never know.
I'd prefer a 1:6, but I can't work that into my budget.
Are Mark 1 tanks reliable, have good performance and sound?

Seriously... Everyone is posting about 1/6 tanks on this forum and on RCU. I'm just glad I haven't found a 1/6 Pershing kit for sale, or I'd be saving up to get in trouble with my wife.

If you're willing to spend that much, you might look into a used armortek. There's an Armortek Panther in Philly right now for less then a new HL 1/8 Tiger (I hear the HL tiger is just under 5K shipped to the US). Enough less that you'd have enough left over for the motion pack.

You're registered at RCU, aren't you? You might want to PM Mastersgt Mike, a very good guy who happens to be registered at the armortek forum and has been in contact with the Panther G owner, and it was Mike who found out the guy dropped the price to 4K (started at 5K but no US takers). I'll bet if you offered $3,500 plus shipping he'd taken it.

You do have a dilemma. For me, the heng long one looks better finished, almost like a work of art, but at those prices for either, I could imagine disappointment could be had with either, one never knows what to truly expect till you have it in front of you to inspect.
People are more likely to be able to give you opinions on Mark one because they've been around longer, and I guess so have heng long, but for them, this is a totally different and new ball game.
Shame they didn't give us something in between first, to give us an idea of what they can do.

I sense that people are somewhat wary of the Heng Long version but you are right, it is like a piece of art. The details seem to be very good, i had a look at a mid-production Tiger for sale on the Amortek Forum, it is not the same standard. Perhaps their later ones are.

The Armortek Panther and now the Ferdinand look exceptional and will always be highly sort after i think. They are both stunning.
