Re: Gun barrel flash 'bulb' led
Im using 5mm orange leds with excelent results. The bulb itself is transparent (making it less noticeable than a painted led) but when shooting the cannon, the light is orange.

I used 5mm leds high intensity if possible! I've tried orange LEDS, not sure if the wrong type but found them too dull compared to the white ones.

Try component shop, good uk supplier!Son of a gun-ner wrote:Thank you Tom, wasn't sure if there was a special 'flash' type led. I want to do an IR tank with a marvel theme, so it'll need a blue flash, I know, sounds silly, but my grandson who'll be coming along with me to clubs to do battle is only eleven and loves marvel.tomhugill wrote:I used 5mm leds high intensity if possible! Re: Gun barrel flash 'bulb' led
I did it with a standard 5mm led and worked great. Of course you can use wathever led you want, but the bulb-type are the ones I like most, because its harder to see them inside the barrel.Son of a gun-ner wrote:Thank you Rad, what I'm actually after is is there anything special about the type of led used, to give that high energy flash. Is it just a standard led, or do I need a special one to do such a bright flash.Rad_Schuhart wrote:Im using 5mm orange leds with excelent results. Just look for the 5mm, clear, LEDs with the highest "MCD" value. It's the measuring unit of brightness for LEDs
Conrad uk has a great selection, and they are really, réally cheap. Even the retina-searing 40000+ MCD LED's ( Though, I wouldn't recommend anything above 10000MCD for something a child plays with, especially in blue. There is a vèry real risk of eye-damage with the higher-intensity LED's)
