1/6 hetzer on EBay

Post by c.rainford73 »

I found this and a 1/6 Sherman for sale from the same person here in the states. I did a bit of research and figure these are strictly designed as GI Joe style display pieces. Can these be made RC or do thier design limit thier use? Apparently the fellow who designed them was a huge fan of GI Joe. Any information would be appreciated.

You are right as far as the limits we set for ourselves. I thought it would be a really inexpensive way to get into some 1/6 scale. I'm sure in the long run to would cost a bunch but it could be fitted up as needed and as my wallet allowed.... just not sure how the quality is on these things

Carl, check out some of Lorenze Jalbert's builds on Youube. (He's the same guy that managed to motorize that bicycle kit that Gary is building). I know that his LVT started out as a Desimone blow-molded kit, like this Hetzer is. He uses a lot of track, sprocket, and roadwheel parts from whatever he can find that will fit to make his 1/6 creations. Fascinating videos to watch - I think my favorite is the V-2 and trailer/erector/launcher. -Mike

If you look at the track links in this picture:
s-l1600.jpg
they look like 1/6th version of the rubber tracks on a Dragon/Tamiya 1/35 model, so to motorise it you would need to replace the tracks at least.

This is where it starts getting really expensive in 1/6th, because the power of motor needed to move the model through any kind of greenery means the tracks have to be tough.

With the hull made of plastic, you don't necessarily need metal tracks but they would need to be good enough not to get chewed up.

This is where the 3D printing agencies could come into their own, but there doesn't seem to be much interest as yet.

Adrian.
