Update 22nd march Oshkosh wheels fuel tanker build

HI all

I am about ... ! Been quiet but still quietly building in the back ground ...

Latest is the oshkosh wheels fuell tanker currently is service with the UK armed forces
I am building the armours cab version ...
It's a little different types to my normal buikds ..but it's part a of a bigger plan
I have for a future build ..really this build is about the flexibility of the tamiya truck chassis
And the availability of parts to shorten or lengthen the chassis and the drive train

Because you might find yourself in Alwyns place if you do, A lot of people are looking for an affordable 1/16 RC Rig for their Abrams and Challenger 2s.

There is a plan to build a tank transport at a later stage .. I am looking at a couple of ideas ..
A Het the UK versions

And the Canadian / German bison ..

Biggest stumbling block is the trailer .. I know the rc truck world use the Bruder 1/16 trailer because is cheep and actually not bad but I been to buy 3 to cut up .. and widen and lengthen .. the issue I have is all the wheel's would be no steering .. and I've been looking at ideas ps how to get around the cost ...

That's awesome and an incredible build out of styrene, beautiful finishes!!!

Re the trailer. there are some lego technics wheels that might do the trick, on ebay enter lego technics large wheels. To make it steerable you'd have to make each pair pivotable and tie them together so the front/rear wheels pivot more than the middle. You would need a servo somewhere in there tied to the tractor steering, or a tie bar to the tractor. An interesting geometry problem! The bed could be ply with aluminium angle reinforcement.

As someone new to the world of manipulating styrene, I now have a better understanding of how it works (and not..sometimes..for me ). I just have to say a virtual WOW! That's amazing. I've looked on in awe at Alwyn's amazing creations, and those of a few others from the advanced scratch styrene elite. You certainly have your place in that august body!
Interesting to see that you use Humbrol for bonding bits together. I spent ages trying out different agents, but in the end found Revell Contacta Pro to work well enough.

I agree about the Revell Contacta but it takes a while to bond, hence the use of PC weld when a fast 'grab' is required. I sometimes use revell contacta forthe full joint but add pc weld at the edges to give a quick grab to hold things in the right place. For large areas the Revell glue is really the only option as pc weld evaporates too quickly to weld large areas.

Love to see styrene scratch builds as it demonstrates the imagination and creativity that this sort of project requires, and the finishes on this project are fantastic, really well done! I could have sworn that the hood and cab were resin moulded given the quality of finish!
