March Tank Of The Month Discussion Thread

Post by PainlessWolf »

Good morning all! Apologies for the somewhat late Start this month. To paraphrase Dr. Ian Malcolm, 'Life got in the way.' The photo submission period will run from 03/17 until 03/11 this month with the Poll to follow. I would like to encourage everyone to use this space to discuss ways to make the TOTM more of an outreach to all of the builders and tank lovers on the Forum.

My only wish is that those with scenery can be allowed to use it to enhance their photo, it's just me I guess but the TOTM is where I like to see tanks looking as realistic as possible, and scenery, buildings etc achieve that, especially for those of us who don't seem to have any natural scenery within travelling distance that they can make use of?

If there's ever a month when Tom and Mark don't have tanks up for consideration I just might enter one of mine, but with those two pros in the field it's kind of an exercise in futility. :/ @) :'( :lolno: :lolno: :lolno:

As Clint once said, "A man's got to know his limitations". @) @) @)
When FDR coined the phrase "The Arsenal of Democracy", he was talking about Detroit. Proud to live in the 2nd most violent city in America!!

Good morning, I hear you, W.W. If we allowed figures and scenery in, the thought was that it wouldn't be TOTM any longer, it would quickly turn into Diorama of the Month. We would then be forced into having to say How much was too much? and When did the Tank lose the focus\spotlight in the presentation? I'm not adverse to crew and outdoor shots. The really well done ones like EddyKs actually add to the realism of the tank in a way that model buildings and static displays cannot.

I agree with WW.

What is the point in spending all that time making a tank look as real as possible then plonking it on a kitchen table or some other completely inappropriate background ?

Gentlemen,
If the Forum owners would like to start a DOTM thread, I will happily support it. The work of all the guys making Tank Farms and Villages would be enjoyed by everyone. I cannot run it tho', TOTM is all I have time for on here. ( my own builds, etc. )
regards,
Painless

How about the 90% of us who don't make dioramas..do you not think it gives an unfair advantage?

You don't need a diorama. Take to a gravel track or in the garden. Real looking tank, real background surely ?

Sorry Tiggr I took it you were referring to WW's where he's clearing talking about scale building etc. Im all for taking the tanks outside to get some shots..most have access to that.
