SCALE HARDWARE REDUX
Hi All,
I know many of us were disappointed when Scale Hardware closed its doors at the end of 2016. We'll, guess what? Scale Hardware is alive and well after all. It's now operating under new management as a division of Model Motor Cars and can be found under modelmotorcars.com/scalehardware. From the look of its website, there could be a European component to the new operation as well

Re: SCALE HARDWARE REDUX
Some of you will know of my fixation with working Wing (Butterfly) nuts,
I have for years reconciled myself to making my own but "Scale Hardware" sell 2mm properly threaded Wing (Butterfly) nuts which as far as I know is the smallest size you can buy,
Not cheap but it saves you from doing it yourself,
Smaller than that and you do make your own.
Shaun.

Hi Shaun
I have just purchased a bag of Schumo butterfly nuts we discussed sometime ago. Can you give me some advice please? I also now have the Aber Feifel pipes. In you opinion when I make the clamps for these should I use butterfly nuts or ordinary nuts, also if its butterfly should I use M2 or the Schumo? You were kind enough to give me advice on a previous thread so I hope you don't mind me asking here.

Re: SCALE HARDWARE REDUX
Sarge Hi, If you had asked me on Sunday I would have said use nuts but things change and Dr Phibes alerted me to a new "ABER" product, Product number 16105 Wing Nuts, As I understand it the shaft is threaded but the separate Wing Nuts are not, I have ordered a set from ---
http://www.welshdragonmodels.co.uk
And then I will discover what size thread I can tap into the Wing Nuts.
When I first made my Feifal air cleaner tube clamps I used threaded M2 brass rod and M2 nuts but then I found a source of 2mm wing nuts which unfortunately were solid centred,
I then spent far too long ruining my eyesight pin vising through the centre of 4 of them then I tapped an M2 thread into them, so I now have working wing nut clamps, But if the "ABER" wing nuts are able to be tapped with an M2 thread then either "ABER" or "SCALE HARDWARE" are where you should be looking but do bear in mind the postal charges from the USA for the "Scale Hardware M2 Wing Nuts.
If you decide to go the hard way and pin vise 4 wing nuts then an M2 thread is what you need and if you go for "ABER" then if it will take an M2 Tap then buy the "ABER" and save your eyesight,
But if the Postal charges are ok then the ready tapped M2 wing nuts are a must have, $2 a pair plus postage from---

Re: SCALE HARDWARE REDUX
Hello Shaun
Really appreciate your help. Just had a look at the Aber 16105 right on the money! Also I like the eye in the bottom of the bolt, this will suit my jack clamps as the Taigen Tiger 1 jack is not 'clamped'. I am about to make some clamps that will require the bolts to pivot. Great work, Shaun, out comes the credit card as we speak.
I am quite happy to tap them out.
Is it OK to use this particular thread to keep in touch?
Pete

Pete If you find that Steve at Welsh Dragon is out of stock of 16105 then Dave at ---
www.forgebeartanks.com
Has some in stock, It is pretty much the last item on page two of his "ABER" section.

Re: SCALE HARDWARE REDUX
Hi Shaun. I have placed an order with Steve, they have been shipped today. Really looking forward to receiving them. I never thought of Forgebear although I do buy my 'lego' tanks from them.
I am currently making the jack clamps. Found a really good bit of advice on this forum. Don't be afraid to fail and start again. I think sometimes I hesitate to start for that reason.
Thanks again
Pete

Re: SCALE HARDWARE REDUX
Pete Hi, I got my "ABER" Wing nuts in the post from Steve this morning, I havn't had much chance to work on them but it looks like an M2 tap will be ideal,
An Expensive tip,
I swear by and sometimes AT my Pin Vise, But for some jobs a Particular type of Pin Vise is superior, I mean the---
"TAMIYA Modelling Drill Chuck Item Number 74086"
It is available for £26.99 and yes it is very expensive But I love it, When it comes to Tapping Threads it beats the usual holder by a long way.
They are available from ---
www.wonderlandmodels.com
Failing and starting again is much easier in our hobby than for instance mountaineering,
If all else fails fill it and start over solves many problems and Acrylic paint being water soluble make repainting much easier than when I used enamel paint.
Never forget Debonder is better than a craft knife for removing items and causes less damage.
