Sturm-Infanteriegeschütz 33B

Post by lmcq11 »

Hi,
Here is a Sturm-Infanteriegeschütz 33B self-propelled howitzer. The conversion is using a Profiline resin kit mounted on a HL Tauchpanzer, well... what's left of it. Good kit of a rare animal, well made and detailed.

Regards, Louis

Another impressive rarity, Louis, and nicely displayed too  It's a pleasant change from the 'usual suspects'. Keep 'em coming. Once again, clicking on the pic unveils an eyeful of subtle details. Flawless.

Hi Louis,

I only recently found this. Do you have any construction pics?

Some pieces of the Profiline kit are available, but I fear not enough...

Hi, sorry, I built this one a few years ago, no pictures of the build are available. I remember the HL upper hull requiring heavy surgery and ending up very weak, with the heavy resin block glued to a few remaining treads of plastic. The HL gearbox top had to be grinded and the inside of the resin cover above needed to be made very thin to sit on top at the right height. One way to keep the whole thing together without distorsions or breaking is to seal the whole thing to the chassis. I know it is a sacrilege to many RC modellers to seal the upper hull to the chassis but this conversion requires non standard decisions to be made.

The rear belly of the Profiline Pz III conversions is always a weak point. I scratch built a few strips to simulate the structure that was seen on few reference pictures of this area.

I though Asiatam made the whole kit but I see they only have a couple of parts available, indeed not enough.

Louis, could I trouble you to give me the dimensions of the four sides of the top plates, and the roof?

In left-over parts I have a Pz III complete except for the turret. I'm considering making the casemate from flat plasticard. With the cannon and hull front from Asiatam, it must make an easier build than your M113?

I don't need it to be a battling tank, just driveable.
