BB unit wiring help needed

Post by lifeofbrian »

Got a new BB firing unit. The wires are different from the one that was in before, (plus my old one had wires missing). Can someone look at these pics and see if I'm right and answer what the other connector is for, cheers. Someone on my F2 thread said that the two wires attached to cable No4. may be for the LED that flashes when the gun is about to fire, but couldn't confirm this. If that is the case, I can just remove those as I will not be using that LED.

Have a look at this circuit diagram I posted once before. The Archive is brimming with such easy reference goodies...

Hi RR, this was the first image I found when googling for answers, unfortunately is didn't make much sense then. But looking at my pics, am I correct in thinking that I have it right? Only my top hull connector is wired to the lights gun and elevation motor via those two smaller boards in pic 2.

Try this link:
http://www.taigentanks.com/taigen-tank- ... ing%20unit It leads to Taigen Guru Erik's take on replacing the Airsoft unit.
Also have a look at this installation guide from Clark. Scrolling down, he deals with the wiring issues of original HL airsoft units (elevation wired directly into airsoft unit; meaning gun doesn't go up and down, but rather goes through cycles. This has been corrected by HL with its latest product, so maybe the gun you have there is wired for the latest setup. I don't have access to that. Also Taigen tanks
- although only broadly upmarket HL models- use a different colour scheme for their wiring looms, and also don't use those wee pcbs illustrated there. On my models (only have Taigen), wires from the turret are soldered onto the back of the Turret 8-pin connector block directly, and don't get routed through mini pcbs.
Whilst I have panzer 4 bits for a project, the Taigen model is complete and I've never had occasion to look inside it..yet. The Heng long upper hull I have is sitting atop my hated Asiatam chassis. They're all on the back burner currently, for reasons of sanity. Thus, I have nothing to refer to, and I'm many miles away from home too. So...

It's worth doing the mod in the Clark instructions, even if you don't fancy fitting his board, simply because it gives you a gun elevation feature independent of the airsoft unit.
As for your first pic.
1. Switch wires are correct, and connect to MFU (for track recoil and sound etc..)
4. Three pin connector goes into 8-pin turret connector block (power to airsoft unit)
2. Red wire does go to on/off switch. But see Erik's take on modding that.
I imagine the red/black wires without JST block are soldered to one of those mini PCBs, and form part of the warning light circuit. But that's a guess. :problem:

Cheers for the info. I've seen that vid, but it doesn't show him soldering any wires because he keeps the old motor which is already wired, plus his upper hull connector is different than mine. The Clark page wiring diagrams may be of some use, so I will try to make some sense of them. I'll have to look into that elevation mod, will I need a new radio for that to work? It's a lot to take in all at once. Especially if I want to do the elevation mod, and I'll want to add rear light at some time, it shows a tail light diagram too. I'm sure once I have it all painted I'll have worked out the wiring, maybe. :D

I think I was right. The difference to the Taigen diagram is mine doesn't have a terminal for connector (no 4.) My upper hull connector is hard wired, and they're already attached, so I can remove the two extra wires (no 5.).
