Hi and welcome to the forum. There are lots of helpful people on the forum who will be able to provide much useful guidance and advice. A good place to start is by getting together at a club meet near you (if you are in the uk). Information can be found under Events/Days out section. It's a good idea to enter your location (can be approx) in your user control panel so that advice on vendors etc can be more accurate.
Whatever you do please refer to the Recommended vendors and vendor blacklist before any purchases to avoid pain, frustration, and a pointlessly depleted pocket. On that subject be advised that this hobby is a constant drain on financial resources and is extremely habit forming - one tank is not enough (or two, or three....), having an understanding partner is essential to avoid marital (or non-marital) conflict .
Enjoy the forum and don't be afraid to ask for help and advice.

Where are you located mate, I may be able to help out with contacts.
There are only 2 real options for normal parts etc for tanks here, Tankarmy, and Ozarmour. There are a few electronics suppliers that also sell good products for the radio side but I have never bought off them.
I'm from northern NSW in a town called Casino, which is nearish to Byron bay. And yes, i would be extremely grateful if you could help me in any way. it's good to know there's help nearby ( in a relative sense).
AHhhh Casino.................did a bit of drilling there before the NSW ruling body decided that is ok to get resources from anywhere but inside their own border-and then moan about the cost of commodities !!
No worries Mr Ellis, will certainly try to assist where possible.
Have you got an idea for your first tank purchase in mind ?
Do you enjoy the researching as well as the building ?
Would you consider yourself as a capable builder/improviser or do you prefer to source the best parts & bring them in ?
Herman has given you the good oil. If all other things are equal, a Heng long Tiger is a cost effective way to learn the ropes. Almost everyone here has one, LOL. If money is no object, the the choices are much wider.
Buying a tank from overseas is expensive, and Tank Army and Ozarmour have limited stock of tanks. I got a cheap Heng Long Tiger from rchighperformancehobbies.com.au with cheap postage from Sydney but even their stock is also limited. The same applies to Hobby King in Perth.
Check out the YouTube videos of RCMojo and his Heng Long Tiger for a concise introduction. They total about 5 hours!
Hi, The advise you have already had is top quality. I would like to add that most of us throughout the rc world rely on dealers on the web simply because there are so few brick built hobby shops left and word of mouth is how you discover the best ones, In Australia I have always had good service from ---- http://www.rctanksaustralia.com/
There is some magical electrical products available.
Anyway welcome and have fun,
Oh by the way the latest model HENG LONG Tiger 1 is a really nice starting place in this hobby.
Shaun,
