What scale tanks do you run? I know my 1/16 guys sit on a dresser in the spare bedroom. Hell would freeze over and I'd be a die hard Hillary supporter before I'd put my tanks out in my garage! Waaaaaaaay too much time and money in them to grow legs and walk off!

Surely they'd be covered under your home and contents insurance? So long as your shed is secured reasonably and you have a paper trail proving ownership, your insurance company couldn't possibly have grounds to deny your claim.

House insurance should cover it,i just added shed contents to my policy to cover chainsaws etc.The problem i'd be worried about is what the insurance company would value them at,they would use market value and a quick look at what tanks sell for would leave you massively out of pocket.

Never keep your tanks outside in a damp environment.

The circuit boards will slowly corrode and fail - fact

For special items it is possible to have an agreed valuation. The moment you start up grading, you are moving away from what an insurance company would pay out without additional facts. These would need to be agreed beforehand rather than argued about after the event. The downside is that almost certainly this would increase the premium. You have to gamble and decide on the risk and whether you choose to self insure the difference.

Safest place in the house, all snug and dry. Nothing would possess me to store them in an outbuilding, no matter how waterproof it was. The only way to value a tank is to add up the sum of the parts, and take out an agreed value policy. If they are in the house then they are unlikely to get stolen, think about how many tanks a thief could carry, two at most? They would take other valuables long before they took plastic model tanks.

They would have little luck selling them on Ebay as there are pics of most of the tanks we own on the forums, they would be spotted in minutes.

Cheers for the info guys, sadly the Chally is going outside for storage and I couldn't buy a new one if stolen, so looks like I will have to negotiate with insurance company to find out a price.......its a hard one to call to be honest

A friend insured his model subs through a specialist company, I've sent him a message as to who that was, will pass on when I get an answer.
