Going to pick your brains for a good beginners 1/16 rc tank.
Have looked at a Taigen Panther G with IR,metal tracks,gearboxes
Sprockets,idlers.
Would this be along the right track??
Also a price guide for such a vehicle?
Where to purchase??

Look in the recommended vendors & go from there - Forgebear has some I think (http://www.forgebeartanks.com/store/c19/RC_Tanks.html) as does (Andrew) Haya (http://www.hayaltd.co.uk/). Both are also members on here. No idea about prices, and whether you need metal - depends what you want to do with them.
