can a HL king tiger's BB unit be replaced with IR?
Looking at HL KT tanks as an option in case I change my mind and I noticed the henschel turrets seem to be limited to BB units. Can the BB units be replaced with the IR units WITH recoil effect with related parts without changing barrels and other parts?

Re: can a HL king tiger's BB unit be replaced with IR?
Yes it can with exception of the barrel and the way it is mounted in the mantle. I did so with mine. The tank comes with a mounting spot for the HL apple already molded in and the emitter diode can be mounted in the mantle. I used the stock HL barrel and a used HL recoil barrel that I cut to put together a barrel that screws into the recoil unit that replaced the bb unit. The mantle must be modified on the inside to allow the modified barrel to slide through it.
Looks like HL had originally wanted to offer a bb and a recoil tank like they used to before they decided that they would only offer bb tanks on all their new releases.

No, I didn't take any pictures of the of the conversion.
The only thing that really takes some work is removing the bb barrel and adding the recoil barrel end to it.
It can be any hl recoil barrel. once you have them cut to the right size so the barrel length is correct when screwed to a hl recoil unit drill out a half inch or so of each end just slightly larger where the will be joined and super glue a home made metal sleeve inside to join them together securely.
Make sure the metal sleeve you make is thin tin like from a empty paint thinner can so you can fit your muzzle flash diode through it if you use a high intensity flash unit or a 3mm diode. If you use a larger diode for the flash and just need to run its wires down the barrel the inside diameter of the barrel is not that important at the point the two pieces are joined as you only need enough room for the wires to slide though.
I don't know if a recoil barrel was offered by any retailers of hl products because I did mine when the Herschel turreted unit first came out. But it is a possibility so check out EBay to see if it might be available. Just remember that the Porch turret unit hl offers with recoil has a different barrel then the Herschel turret.
