Me and my lad

Post by Gazbo »

Howdo !
I posted a question, before I introduced myself !
Sorry about that. this is my first ever forum - anywhere !
(took me all my time to suss out how to post in the first place! haha.)
Anyway.
I am Gary Armitage. I'm 55 this month. I'm a mechanical fitter, at a chemical factory in west Yorkshire, UK.
My son Dan is 18, and is a trained Tree surgeon.
About 7 years ago, my workmate promised me a Tank, for me to practice my airbrushing on(another hobby I'm not yet good at).
I didn't expect much really. He said it didn't work, and the kids had lost the controller (Tranny). I was surprised when it turned out to be ( I think) a HL Mk1 Abrams, 1:16.(I was expecting airfix / corgi, or something around that scale. (I'd never seen an RC tank before at this stage)
Barrel was snapped (red light in muzzle type), and one track was missing. I bought a new set of tracks, and glued the barrel back on.
(Just realised - I still haven't attempted a paint job on it !)
Long story short, I decided to stick a multicore up it's jacksie, and rigged up a wired remote from spares / switches etc. from within the bowels of my workshop. It worked !
We had a good few hours of fun with that tank.
I have flown model Aircraft with Dewsbury M.A.C. for years, and also built a royal navy ship from plans, but had never thought of tanks - until then.
'Er indoors (Chemical Helen) then bought me the HL Tiger 1 for Xmas. (smoke and sound, with bb gun, but old board type)
Dan then got a basic HL Walker bulldog, and his cousin, a Snow leopard. I built a bridge for the garden, and a bombed out building/ with german radio set and some oil drums etc, just for fun.
That was all about7 years ago ! All got shelved, as work commitments/weather limited our time.
Now we are at it again, bought 2 new (Proper 3000 Nicd) batteries, and I've just begun an attempt at weathering. I was looking at the beautiful photo's on this site, when I realised someone may know about a fault on my bb gun, so I joined today, and promptly posted my question. After the rather pleasant rollicking from Jarndice (Thanks for that)
I am now, hopefully, putting the record straight)
Thanks for letting me join guys. There may not be too much forthcoming from me for a while, I'm learning from the bottom up, but I'm sure I'm better off by being a member here, and if I do have any useful info - I'll be glad to share it with you guys. Best regards. Gazbo

Welcome to the forum and to the world of rc tanks. Most important, have fun with the tanks and ask all the questions you may have.
