Dear fellas

Did an original Panther mantlet block the drivers radio op position at 30degrees, it' just seems too big, its such a shame, everything else is great, its driving me bonkers!

Posted as "Little antenna tip for barrel traverse" is what I did on my Metal Panther to allow the antenna to pop back up after being pushed
over by 360 traverse.

Hi Tao
That's a good solution, what I made very unclear was the driver and radio man would be trapped if the tank was knocked out with the turret chin over there hatches at about 30dgr the chin of the turret would block one of there escapes, I can't imagine they would have let that happen? Or maybe it was a stop gap measure, so it was better to not get killed by the mantlet shot trap, but take a chance the tank didn't get knocked out with the turret chin over one of there hatches?

The mantlet, and the mantlet attachment seem too big, thick??

Ahh good question..I bet somebody will provide the answer shortly! I think if the turret blocked at 30 degrees.. in time it would have been corrected. But also curious if that is what happened on the full scale Panther.

Was there not a hatch in the hull floor they could use for escape?

God help me this could go very wrong.

I've worked out why it's too big, the heng long one is right, the mantlet attachment is the right size to fit the mantlet without it failing the hatches, the rctank one I think to get the metal rain gaurd detail to attach with pegs into massive attach points (which is too thick anyhow!) the factory have made the metal mantlet attachment 5mm bigger than it should be, the mantlet is still too thick at the chin, but the bigger attachment pushes it out completely.

I'm turning it into a early g, without the chin, guess it meant I can zimmermit it! If I'd have realised this sooner I wouldn't have butchered the plastic heng long one.

I spoke to the great man Dominique and he say they took it from the plans at munster tank museum, I'm thinking the factory might have fiddled with the cad files to solve the rain guard.

I haven't measured it but based on this photo..to me the model isn't that far off. But again that is was just
a quick look. The sliding hatches make sense.. good one finding that information!

Man, I wonder what crews found out first! I'll stick a pic up if I manage to get the mantlet to look right after tons of car filler!!

Thanks fellas
