Post by cliveo3 »

Hi there
I have just bought a new torro tiger from Amazon for £88.35 and free postage ( Thought it would be rude not to ,at the price ) ,been a few years since I have done any serious tank modelling ,been flirting with life size dinosaur models anyhow just wondering if I could update the sound system on a torro tiger .
Thank you gentlemen and have a nice day

I think you will find this is what was the WSN Tiger. Basically it is all plastic. i am not sure whether Torro upgrade parts will fit. I have the equivalent T34, which ran very nicely. To change the sounds will require a new board and transmitter and receiver. I am fairly certain you will have the standard 27MHz system, as opposed to the more modern 2.4GHz. I have chosen to upgrade the electronics by fitting a Clark board, or to be more precise, having a Clark board fitted for me. I still have some work to do. Enjoy your tank and accept that you have started down the rocky road to addiction.

Hello, Clive
Well, having just had a quick peek at the Tiger, I'd say it's value for money as an entry level model. It's a late production tiger model with- at first sight- pretty good detailing. On Taigen models, the tools emerge unconvincingly from the deck of the upper hull..they need sanding off and replacing, where this model offers accessory style tools that have the clean lines of Tamiya. Not bad for £88. With a bit of skilful adaptation, you'll be on the right track (left too.. :D )
I've just extracted this pic from Amazon UK, so we'll all know what's on offer :-

That's a bargain at £88 although it does need a bit of work,
Those tracks look too tight and those wheels and the early drivers periscope should mean an early cupola as well as Feifal Air cleaners but I could live with it.

It's more akin to a mid production model in my humble opinion, subject to a few detail errors.
Tiger 1 Early Taigen,
Tiger 1 Mid Torro,
Tiger 1 Late Taigen,
King Tiger Taigen (P)
Jagdtiger Torro
King Tiger (H)
King Tiger Torro (H)
Tiger 1 late Torro

Well the Turret vents and the Cupola are late but the wheels are early and the twin vision ports above the drivers viewing slot are very
early and as an aside the term "MID" was not part of the terminology of the day but is very much a "Hobbyists" term post Heng Long,
As in almost all mechanical devises as products are updated these items are retro-fitted as and when required,
Certainly if a tank comes into a forward workshop needing new wheels and the stores have only old pattern they won't park the tank up until late pattern ones are in stock !

Although as late as April 1945 some of Gruppe Fehrman Tiger 1s could be seen with old pattern wheels, but as there were only six Tiger 1s in the Gruppe, in this case it was grab whatever serviceable Tiger or Panther you can and GO!!!

Try this. It comes in a couple of styles; but they all have IR in common...

Hi again, Clive..
It looks as if your Torro Tiger is probably a mid-production model, not Late as I suggested (I expect some wouldn't give a hoot one way or another..still :D ) Anyway Torro appear to have based it on this tank from the Alan Hamby site ( a real treasure trove of Tiger related stuff.. ):-
