Metal Tracks

Evening All, I know this might sound a bit of a stupid/slap forehead question but here goes, what are the metal tracks made of? are they a sort of an alloy? also I want to weather them black as per a previous thread i've seen on here, so was looking to purchase some gun metal bluing kit & soak/imerse each track separately so roughley how long should i soak/immerse them. or would using white vinagar be cheaper & a better result? oh will prob do the sprockets & idlers this way too.

Just as Shaun says check the tips thread out bud,a short answer to your question is if you use birchwood casey blue it takes a minute or two per track or if you use the fluid I used last on the thread it takes around 5 mins per track but the colour change is more controllable.

I use the instant gun blue, put it in a spray bottle spray it on and it instantly turns them black. By the time I spray the whole track down its coal black then I just rinse it off in the sink.

It's really that easy.

Jack you live in a country where every Mall and Main Street has a Gun shop,
They are a very rare sight in the UK which is why most of us either get Gun Blue on-line or we explore alternatives,
You have my promise if Gun Blue in a spray bottle is readily available on-line then it gets my recommendation BUT anyone using Gun Blue however it comes, do wear gloves and eye protection.

No you can't buy gun blue in a spray bottle here either. Just take the bluing pour it into a spray bottle and THEN spray your tracks. Spray gun bluing it would be convenient but it doesn't come that way.

But you warning is well founded. Please use eye protection and ware gloves. Myself I always spray it outside and always stand up wind while spraying it.

As above use caution using gun bluing as it does contain acids and can harm you. It works great but put your big boy pants on if you plan to use it, be responsible, be careful, be safe, have fun!
