Clarke board with Tamiya

Post by h5djr »

Does anyone know if it is possible for a Clarke board to work with a Tamiya Full Option kit. The reason I ask is that I am building a Tamiya Jagdpanther and the DMD unit does not seem to be functioning correctly. Also the DMD unit supplied is the same as for the Tiger 1 and the engine sound is the same where as the Jagdpanther uses a different engine.

You can use whathever electronics you want if you adapt the conectors.

I use a Ibu2 pro in my tamiya Sherman.

Engine sounds are the same for the tiger/Panther/King tiger and jagdpanther. They all use the same Maybach HL230 P30 or P45 engine.

Post a video of the dmd/mfu we may be able to help.

Your are right both tanks did have the same basic engine but videos of the Jagdpather at the WTD41 in Trier and the Tiger 131 at Bovingdon they certainly sound different. I have also seen videos of a Tamiya Jagdpanther with a Clarke board fitted and it sounds different and more like the WTD41's Jagdpather. Perhaps it's down to the different exhausts used.

I think you're right about the exhausts.

if you are looking at replacing the Whole dmd/mfu unit , and go for another Complete card , anything will go . Elmod, Clark , ibu etc.

You can also, by adding a BARC4 decoder from battlearmor , use the Benedini soundcard for the sounds, and still use the 'drive' function from the Tamiya Unit

I don't have a video of a 'moving tank ' With this setup , but here you have one example on how it sounds. ( Saumur King Tiger )

They used the same engine but sound different due to the different exhausts.

Clark boards use a recording done of the Bovington Tiger, however the recording was done before the engine swap. The current Tiger runs and sounds very nice, but the usual Tiger sounds that you hear on RC tanks are of the old misfiring Tiger. There is a world of difference between the two.

The current Bovington Tiger sounds a lot more like a Jagdpanther.

Tiger as it used to sound with a dodgy cylinder head and misfiring:
