Another item to reduce/adjust turret rotation speed

Post by tao »

There are various ways to slow standard turret speed down but these 20 ohm adjustable Potentiometer's are inexpensive and an easy way to adjust the speed up or down. Just wire into either of the turret motor leads. The voltage gets reversed to turn right and left on the motor- so this cuts down the power a bit either way.

How do you wire them up? This is a great tip but can you upload pictures please showing how to wire them up in a really basic beginner guide for the guys like me who have never done soldering or wiring or find it hard following a wiring diagram. keep it simple please with lots of step by step pictures, so we can see what bit goes to which wire. A basic explained guide to a mod is great, to make it idiot proof for guys like me. Cheers.

Oh on a standard taigen or HK turret you just spice it into either of the wires going to the rotation motor. Or you can add a diode
too which will just cut the voltage down. The polarity on the HL type turrets gets flipped so you can't use a standard voltage regulator. Of course guys who use a servo for turrets can vary the speed via the radio which is cool!

Thanks, I was trying to decide between this method and the fitting of a resistor, I guess this method means you can adjust traverse speed which is handy, thanks for the info and tip guys.

Just bought a set, and noticed device has threes pins on them, with the positive lead going to the traverse motor on my HL tank, which wire goes where as device has three pins and I have two ends of wire to attach, what do I do with the third pin on the device and which of the threes pins gets the positive ends of my red wire connected, sorry if it is a noob question but I am new to electronics. Can anyone upload any wiring diagram or even better pictures of it fitted and how?

Just came across this thread. I had thought of doing this to my new Leo 2. The turret is way too fast.

As to wiring up the trimmer pots, on most of those the middle tab is the common, and either outside tab is used. So, after you cut your wire, hook one end up to the middle tab, and the other to either outside tab. Turing the pot all the way one way will either make the rotation full speed, or almost dead slow. Just adjust as suits you.

Hope this helps.

Thank you Bill for the info. Just what we beginners need someone with the experience to explain stuff. I would never of guessed the third outer pin was not needing a wire attached to it. I am looking forward to trying this mod out when they arrive. As I like to make my model tanks look and move as close to the real thing a possible I hated the fast turret turn rate. From reading about the Panther D had a turret rotation rate of between 15-93 seconds depending on engine and rotation traverse speed ratio selected.
