Dead Tiger

Post by DRC »

I kind of know the answer to this one but I'm hoping that I might be wrong.

I started in this hobby sometime in September so still very new when it comes to RC related topics. The first tank I bought was a HL Tiger 1, I didn't run it much but started to upgrade it almost immeadiately so up to now it can only have travelled a few yards under it's own power. I have replaced both the tracks, sprockets and Idlers with metal items (You will remember I posted a question about the tracks and sprockets not being compatable.).

One of the other things I have done is replace the 27 meg system with the newer 2.4 Gig units from HL. again, apart from testing them on installation they remain unused. The other night I decided to finish the long suffering Tiger and have one last go at getting the tracks to run right before spending a load more cash on a proper matched set of tracks and sprockets etc. I put a fully charger battery in the tank and new Duracells in the transmitter.

I switched the Tx on - red light glows - check.

I switched on th tank - headlights flash - check.

Then nothing! Not a thing! I've pressed the engine start, wiggled all the sticks and pressed all available combinations of buttons - still nothing. The Tiger just sits there definantly winking at me with it's aftermarket head lights!

All the connections and wiring appear fine and the tank worked flawlessly the last time I worked on it.

One last clue. Do you remember the first cell phones? the ones that used to affect the TV when you used them? Do you remember the sound the TV made - a kind of bleeping? Well, when I put my ear to the tank's speaker I can now hear the same noise.

I am beginning to think that either the Tx or Rx has died but don't want to beleive it as both have had very little use and absolutely no abuse.

Any ideas??

I think you will find the answer lies in the clue you gave when you told us that you had changed from 27MhZ to the 2.4 GhZ system,
Did you bind the radio system?
Shaun.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

It came bound straight out of the box. It has worked, as I rested it after I first fitted it that was when I found out the tracks didn't fit the sprockets!

I'm no radio expert, but I have had problem with my Tamiya Tiger losing its settings and not working properly. I put the tank through the set up procedure. This involved pressing the reset on the receiver, running through the complete sequence of stick movements, then pressing the reset again. It then was fine. I am sure an expert will put this into more technical terms, and correct any mistakes I have made.

Several people have reported problems now with new 2.4 receiver, transmitter sets that came in their tanks and replacing the receiver and binding to the transmitter has fixed their problems.

If it's the gen three HL set, there is a small button that is a binder or frequency changer on a blue cable that can require switching to make it work.
I have 4 of these sets all after market from the tank and two did this.

Thanks. So maybe not as expensive as I first thought. So I need a blue cable thingy?

Perhaps, I dont have any way of photographing mine now, but I get mine as a kit from Tankarmy & it came included every time.
Its a small button on a short cable. I run it into the battery box through the redundant crystal slot.
