Something odd with IBU2
Hello all
I know its another thread about an IBU2 question I have but this is odd and has me stumped. I had the Taigen IR turret with recoil plugged into my IBU2 for my Heng Long Tiger 1. I was testing it this morning and it was driving fine, the sounds were ok and the gun was recoiling when it was firing.
However when I fired the gun the gun recoiled and all of a sudden the tank went dead. I tried to turn it off and on and the front light would not turn on. I wondered if it was my stock battery being drained quickly by the recoiling. But a quick charge and trying again nothing happend.
However when I put in my old Heng Long RX18 board the light on the front turned on and the tank had power. The big Fuse on the IBU2 board looks intact and I could not smell any burning or electrical smell incase it was the smaller 2 amp fuse.

Re: Something odd with IBU2
Is the IBU2 set to lipo or NIMH on the dip switches? Because if it's set to lipo and the battery is not a lipo it can make the tank act like you are describing.

Thanks for the replyjackalope wrote:Is the IBU2 set to lipo or NIMH on the dip switches? Because if it's set to lipo and the battery is not a lipo it can make the tank act like you are describing.
I'll have a check at the dip switches but it was running pretty much perfectly before it stopped dead, and I had it turned on to turn the turret and fire the gun before I started the engine to move it.
However it may have been a error on my part because I did'nt put the board in the plastic box case I have for it. I'm wondering if it touched a wire or the power switch which might have done something to the board

Re: Something odd with IBU2
it could be a momentary short that blew the small 2 A service fuse out.
also sometimes the recoil mech and motor is frictioned (some screw too much tight) especially on the "asiatam" flat shape white plastic recoil and elevation unit.
if the board green led doesn't blinks the fuse is burned.

Think that might be it cause when the power switch is turned on the green light does nothing. Had a check of the 2 A fuse and the big fuse and didn't see any sign of scorching, but it could be that its popped without leaving behind any sign.theibuman wrote:it could be a momentary short that blew the small 2 A service fuse out.

Where would be the best place to look for a replacement fuse?

Ian sells them. Fuses don't tend to look scorched unless you've really fried things.Craigm1992 wrote:Think that might be it cause when the power switch is turned on the green light does nothing. Hi Craig
I'm still away for a few more days so if your in a hurry, the part number is listed in the manual in the FAQ section. You can buy from farnell or rs components for 70-80p plus vat and delivery.
I don't think maplins etc sell them.
Ian.

Thanks for replies,
I'm in no particular so I'll wait until Ian/tankbear returns.
I do reckon it is that fuse as the big fuse seems intact as the wire inside the bulb is unbroken.

Re: Something odd with IBU2
What's the best way to check if I have the updated manual?
I have a protective case for my IBU2 board which I wasn't using for some daft reason when I was testing the turret {probably cause I was just doing a little test}. Could the board coming into contact with the power switch for the tank or any of the wiring cause something like the micro 2 amp fuse to blow?

the best way to have the updated manual is to download it from here : http://www.rctankelectronics.com/download.html or here : http://www.ibu-electronics.com/downloads_5.html
If the board come in contact with the power switch or any of the wiring or metal parts sure will blow the fuse.
But a somehow stuck recoil can blow the fuse also.
