Radio gear advice needed please folks

Post by mikef350 »

Hi all

Just bought a Tamiya tiger 1 off the bay and I need to purchase some radio gear.Do I need to buy the old fm type with analogue trims or will a modern 2.4ghz with digital trims work just as well.

I ask as I remember that some trims needed to be moved along with sticks to operate tank features

I have a Planet T5 with my Tamiya Tiger. The trims operate like analogue ones. The only problem I found was that Channels 1 and 2 needed swapping over. The problem is described in my build thread. My current set up give throttle and turret rotation on the left stick, steering and gun controls on the right. If you want throttle and steering on the same stick, you will need to make further changes. Note that the left stick does not have self-centering.

It would be interesting to hear how Tamiya operates with digital trims.

Digital trims work fine you just need to calibrate the dmd for slightly less than full stick movement so you don't need to use trims

I used a DX6i with digital trims and works fine. However you can program it so you don't use the end of the throw to control firing etc. That can be assigned to a button.

Has any one had any experience with the fly Sky 2.4g fs-ct6b 6ch radio gear?it seems a very good price and I used to use a fly sky gt-3b for my exam cars and always seemed fine.

I like the Planet T5 for Stock Tamiyas, easy to add a fire button and nice to hold.
The fs-ct6b works fine but to me feels a bit too big ergonomically.

Mike, is the flysky 6 anything like the Turnigy TGY-i6, cuz I have one of those. Very, very nice little box, and only fifty bucks US. It can be made to self center and I'll get around to it eventually, but I'm looking into another self centering gimbal for it, mainly out of laziness. I make my own self centering levers for the HK6S but the i6 is a bit more complicated. Right now I have my Mato all metal PzIII with a clark TK22 hooked up to that radio, and it also has a viper for volume control from the TX. I do have a real flysky, the i10, but I haven't really started getting to know it yet. That has all the stuff for telemetry and I have another gimbal to get both sticks self centering. Here's a video I made on the i6 when I first got it. Since then I've opened it and seen that I can make a self center lever, but it will be a chore.

When FDR coined the phrase "The Arsenal of Democracy", he was talking about Detroit. Proud to live in the 2nd most violent city in America!!
