Asiatam Famo or Elefant

Post by Steve Norris »

Hi all
I fancy getting either a Asiatam Famo or Elefant but am undecided on which, Can any of the experts please let me know which is best. On the same subject I would also need electronics for whichever I buy and am thinking about using a Elmod system, would this be a good choice.
Regards
Steve

Apparently the famos discontinued. I have the elefant and rate it highly. You will need to do some filling and sanding to get everything snug but it's worth it.

Bad news. You can't get the Famo anymore. No idea if it will be re-released or not, but currently all you can get are some of the parts. I've tried emailing asiatam but like so many others, I get no reply.

No experience with the elmod, but the asp will run either vehicle quite well, and I think the IBU also has a halftrack mode.

I would love a "FAMO" but the thing was so expensive and that is probably why they have stopped making them,
A viscous circle of a product expensive to make = too expensive to buy so nobody bought them,
Pity.

Hi Steve I just looked at the "FAMO" but at 599 Euros or £480 as a rolling chassis it makes my point for me, It really is far to expensive.
For that kind of money I could be well on the way to something from "TAMIYA" or the very top line fully fitted out TAIGEN or TORRO Tank.

Darn it, Steve, I just got the balance down on the plastic money, and ya had to tell me that. Well, time to juggle some numbers and see what's what.

The famo is a big hunk of iron (well zinc alloy) and tbh the price is no worse than the elefant or tiger p. No one else makes them. It's a really impressive model too. I wouldn't let the lack of electors out anyone of it just needs a servo two esc and a mixer which can be had under £40.

If you look at some of the German wheeled vehicles on afv model like the dachs you will have a bigger shock!

Just for a bit of perspective, the Famo is the same price as the sound system for an Armortek tank and I have bought plenty of these over the years (ouch).
As I have a Imai Elefant at the moment I think I will go for the Famo unless anyone tells me any horror stories about it in the next few hours.

Why don't ya get two and have one sent to my house? That way if anything goes wrong you can say it was my idea to do it that way. No? Not buyin' it? Damn. Well, a guy's gotta try, eh?

In all seriousness, (is that even a word?) if you'll grant just one boon, LOTS OF PHOTOS!! Photos of everything would be just terrific. At the risk of exposing a weakness, the main reason I haven't delved into the Opel Blitz I got from Asiatam is lack of confidence. It was a rather expensive piece and I think I may be waiting for someone I know (at least as much as the web allows us to know each other) to blaze the trail. If you do this Famo I think it will give me more incentive to save up the money to get one.

Here's another question - they were selling the Famo, it went off the site, now it's back, does anyone think that means they did another production run? Any idea how many famos they would make at a time? 10? 20? More? I don't want to wait forever but I think they should have a few in stock at least thru the summer? Bonus in August!

And when I got the Blitz they had several different packages for it (I got lazy and just got the most expensive one) with electronics and what not, depending on price. Has anyone ever seen other packages offered for the Famo? I'm wondering if I wait a minute if they might come out with a more complete package.
