Hi! I have a Flysky TH9xb modded with an old smartieparts board for flashing the radio with the tanker software. Now I need another radio for playing with my sons and friends and I can not decide which way to go.
-Buying another Flysky TH9xb, but with the newer smartieparts board, that looks very good but a bit expensive.
-The new turnigy 9xPro radio. (I think it is very ugly)
-The flysky FHI10 with 10 channels. (10 channels and telemetry could be very fun to play with)
What do you recommend me?

Re: Transmitters. Which way to go?
I like the small light weight FlySky FS-i6 but only 6 channels, not tried the i10 version but looks very nice but OTT for my needs.
Plus with the newer FlySky radios I haven’t found a source of the return spring kit or replacement gimbal so you have to live with the ratchet throttle stick.
I guess depends what you want to use the model for.

Re: Transmitters. Which way to go?
I have the Turnigy 9XR Pro so please take my comment with a grain of salt. Just want to point out that the 9XR Pro with the Frsky XJT transmitter and the 8XR receiver will also do 16 channels/SmartBus and telemetry.
I just sold my set on eBay. It was an overkill for tanks but it works great. I ended up back with the DSSS module and the old Turnigy/HobbyKing receivers which is $10 each.

Agree with MichaelC some radios are overkill for tanks.
I use 9XR Pro and FrSky module on my Trucks and Excavator because I’ve some unique mixing for hydraulics, lights and sounds etc., but not my tanks which are meant to be controlled by a 4 channel radio (or 6 or 8 in some cases)

Re: Transmitters. Which way to go?
Well, it depends of what you can do with your tank. 6 Channels is not enough for me Im afraid, specially with the newer electronics that are using up to 8 channels.
Right now Im using a Ibu 2 pro that takes 6 channels, and I have a 4ch switch for switching on and off a laser on the turret (For airsoft aiming), a searchligh, notek, convoy light and short range lights on mi Panzer III, so I need at least a 8CH transmitter. I may install cameras in the tank so I may need even more channels...
16ch on the turnigy 9xpro sounds like a win win. With the modded flysky you can have 16 ch too but you need two receivers.
Decisions... decisions... Hope to win the lottery and buy the three radios, lol.

Re: Transmitters. Which way to go?
I believe you still need to stack two 8XR to get full 16 channels. I think you could use the smartbus (???) for somethings to get 16 channel on 1 receiver.Rad_Schuhart wrote:16ch on the turnigy 9xpro sounds like a win win. With the modded flysky you can have 16 ch too but you need two receivers.
If the electronic doesn't have additional lighting control then absolutely you can chew up more than 8 channels. So far 8 seems to be the limit for me, and that is on a tank with receiver servo elevation and rotation and the gyro on/off for turret locking and stabilization. I could have easily move the servo control back to the electronics and I will be back down to 6 channels.
Re: Model Matching....... Agreed with Paul on that. Nice to have when you have a platoon going, and no more run away tanks when you are fiddling with couple of them at the same time.

You still need 2 x 8 channel receivers with the FrSky system and there £20+ each.Rad_Schuhart wrote:

You can mod the flysky FS-i6 to use a 10 channel and telemetry, it's what i'm using to test the IBU3 and will be offering alongside the IBU3 when it's launched.

Scalaw, that model matching feature its awesome and never heard of it before!
Tankbear, with the flysky modded with the smartieparts board we can use the 16channels with the cheap turnigy receivers. Dont remember exactly how, but it can be done quite easy. But how do you mod the 6ch radio to use the 10channels?

Re: Transmitters. Which way to go?
Sorry Rad I thought you was on about the FlySky FS-i6 radio. Yes I remember seeing 16 channels using 2 modules in the radio (1 internal other external)
The newer FlySky radios i6 and i10 sort of have model matching. Where you bind 1 receiver to model 1, another receiver to model 2 BUT the radio doesn't allow you to switch between models until you power down the receiver your currently using. Where as the FrSky version does allow you to swap models and tells the live receive to go into like a sleep mode so your model does race off.
