I've noticed some very high ampere hour batts for sale but they are nimh not Nicad this is nickel metal hydride my question is can they run a tank ie is the torque to much for them ?
If they are capable then they must be the way forward as it means longer run times as some of these batteries offer double the mah for the same size
Thanks
Nimh batts

Re: Nimh batts
Hi
About the batteries you ask if they will run okay.
Most of the tankers in my club all use nim batteries I personally have 6 (7.2V 5300 amph) with no problems you just have to use the correct charger and charging times / rates.
As for run times I can run my Abrams for about 3-3.5 hours on this battery in other words it last 's me a tank meet.
hope this helps

Re: Nimh batts
Thank you, I was told though that a normal Nicad charger could charge a nimh battery,
But there again he could have been wrong.
Can anyone recommend a good brand name or is it ok to buy the ones from Hong Kong on eBay?
That was very helpful Denzil.

Re: Nimh batts
NiMH are better than NiCad in almost every respect.
They have no memory like NiCad, their only issue is they'll lose some initial charge soon after charging, but they can be routinely overcharged by 20% (manufacturer's recommendation).
I use 4200 mAh NiMH packs in my tanks, charge them to 4650 (a little over 10%) and they last an entire afternoon of battling.

What, me worry?

I use NiMh, 5000 packs
Treat yourself to a smart charger.
Avoid the silver ones from ebay. They dont take the amount of charge they say they will and mine are dead after only 4 charges :-/
I've just got 2 overlander? batteries im trying. so far so good

Re: Nimh batts
Are the nimh batteries on sale from Hong Kong any good they are much cheaper and seem to have a higher capacity, I use lipo batteries in my drone and have been advised not to buy them from the Far East , looking fwd to tying to film my tanks with the drone .
That should be some fun.

Re: Nimh batts
I would go with a seller that has sold many units, and also the ones that are properly labelled. I have gotten some that are not labelled and they are absolute garbage. Even with the properly labelled ones they are usually are not what they claim the ratings are, but at least you know ahead of time. I would say 6800mAh are more like 5000mAh, and 5000mAh are like 3800mAh, etc etc.
If you already have lipos I wouldn't bother with NiMH.
