Flak Gunner Required

Post by silversurfer1947 »

Having recently acquired this,

to make it more complete, I am looking for a suitable gunner. The two loaders are, I think, Torro figures, and I have found this.

It would need considerable modification, but has the advantage that it would at least be a reasonable match for the other two. However, if anyone has any alternative suggestions, they would be gratefully received. I have had a look on line, but have been somewhat swamped, making ti tricky to separate the wood from the trees, so to speak.

Also, I have found a source of ammunition boxes and 20mm magazines, but I wonder if used 20mm cartridge cases are available. Again, I can find 88mm, 75mm and even small arms cases, but no 20mm.

You might look at kubelwagen crews. They'd have to be modified, but you might find something usable.

That's a great looking flakpanzer, was it a kitbash or does someone make a kit for that?

It was built by Wadsworthj, who has been selling up his tanks. Taigen Panzer IV with a kit Flak 38 quad spliced on. I've forgotten who made the guns - I think it is detailed somewhere on the forum. Guns rotate, but don't elevate or flash.

I wonder if you could adapt the quad .50 unit to carry the German guns? That's wired for elevation, rotation and muzzle flash. I mean, just use the base and wiring from the quads and the stuff from the flak kit for the rest.

Sounds interesting. Not sure whether my skills would be up to it, but I will give it serious consideration. Is it possible just to buy the quad .50? I've only seen it on an M16 half-track.

You have to look around but they're out there. There's a guy on RCU that calls himself thecommander and he sells the M16s and has said in the past that he also has the quads but I never did get a price.

I got my figure, but he is currently an almost limbless soldier, missing right arm and right leg, which have been amputated for a better fit. Unfortunately, in checking how to modify him, I have found a number of errors in the vierling, possibly in the original kit, but also in the assembly, I think. I am unable to discover the flak 38 kit manufacturer, so if anyone could point me in the direction of anyone who produces a 1/16th scale kit, it would be much appreciated. I can find 1/72, 1/48, 1/35 and 1/6 but no 1/16. There is a 1/18 on Shapeways, but at over £180, that's out of the question.
